Is the stock tailpipe stainless steel?

I want to add a small piece of flex pipe in the tail pipe right after my 2-to-1 stock cat.

The flex bolts rusted away and I bolted the flange right to the cat with straight bolts, so the system lost a bit of flex and it's putting some stress on the tailpipe-muffler joint.

Anyway, my question is, is the tailpipe stainless steel? It certainly does not look like it.

Will this work to cut it?

Also, got the SVX out after being on jackstands in the garage for 10 months. Ran perfectly!
Except, of course, the exhaust.

Yes.........

even stainless can rust when it is paired with steel....

Why don't you just go get the correct Subaru parts?
Two 44059AA010 bolts
Two 902350004 nuts
Two 44028PA000 springs

About $8.00 for the pair of bolts,
about $2.00 for the nuts,
about $16.00 for the springs IF they are missing, or if you had to cut them to get it apart.
Normally those springs last forever, unless they are damaged.

Re: Is the stock tailpipe stainless steel?

I've found that honda spring bolts are an exact match for ours, and are available aftermarket for just $2.42 a pair for the entire bolt/nut/spring set. Just a tip!

I'll take another look, but I think the flange was so rusted and the gasket to, that the only way I could get it to stop leaking was to bolt it in there all the way.

Re: Is the stock tailpipe stainless steel?

they make a two piece collar flange that you can install around the original if yours is too rusty. it's just two curved pieces that the bolts go through.

We used them on an outback here and they worked perfect. Compared them directly to SVX bolts as well. Though not identical, they work perfectly
