How to wire in remote keyless entry?

My '92 here in Aus has central locking only, and I've had an after market remote keyless entry unit sitting here for ages.

The key barrel and/or key are wearing a bit and becoming hard to unlock the door with, so I figure it's time to look into doing the install.

Anyone got tips on what wiring harness to bite into, or where to start looking and tracing from?

My Canadian market '97 has what I think is a dealer installed keyless remote because it is a Subaru box that's wired in. We didn't get the factory installed wireless security systems here that the US markets cars have.

I can't help you with the actual wiring but I will take a photo tomorrow that might help show where it was spliced in near the fuse box that's in the footwell.

Even better, I've found a PDF copy I have of a Subaru reference and installation guide to the keyless entry system. It's 3.7MB so I can email it to you if you want.

Re: How to wire in remote keyless entry?

That could work nicely! I've got the wiring diagram that's in the tech section on this site somewhere, so hopefully I can match your PDF with the existing PDF and the actual wires inside the car!

Sending PM...

Re: How to wire in remote keyless entry?

It's gone to you in an email. The images in the pdf aren't the best but with a wiring diagram might work for you. I'm sure that the gurus on the forum will have better info once you get into this.
