Buzzing noise under acceleration
i was going to sell my svx because it almost killed me. it just stopped on middle of highway =*( but since i went through so many stuff with this car i decided to fix it and keep it.
tranny broke down but i dont know how much it will cost me i just want to hear from someone knows well about these problems so i will not be ripped off.. i used to hear some buzzing noise under acceleration i dont know if it's from exhaust or tranny.. some noize from right rear wheel assuming it's just the brake pad but my friend told me it could be the wheel bearing.. the last owner rebuilt tranny about 2years ago but same thing happened to me again... i wonder if subaru offers any service for this kind of problem if there is how can i get it? help me please... |

You should be able to get a remaned Suby tranny for about $3300. Try Liberty Subaru in Oradel NJ. There is also a tranny shop in Mawah that has done about 14 SVX's.

The buzzing was likely your heat shields or the resonator. We all experience it at one time or another. The shields can be spot welded or, you can take some large hose clamps to secure them. The resonator is another story. Some have it cut out and replaced with straight pipe, some have a glass pack or "bullet" muffler installed for disappation of the "gas plug" that is created by exhaust (thanks Harvey ). As for the noise in the right rear wheel, it's most likely a wheel bearing. Be prepared to pay 200.00 plus to have it replaced. I would make sure that the housing was replaced with the bearing assembly as a cover-your-butt measure to avoid future problems. Make sure the tech KNOWS what he's doing. Flushing the grease the bearing comes in is a MUST, then, repack with clean, high temp grease. BTW, the resonator is the large lumpy thing that is situated between the Y-Pipe and the muffler, near the right rear wheel in the exhaust system. Good luck, and thanks for opting to fix your car instead of selling it. We don't want to lose any SVXers!
