Re: tranny line ballbearings?

ok its an at., original tranny.... there are 2 lines comeing down from the engine to the tranny, there are screws going through them at the tranny to keep them there, the one screw had a spring on it, and in the tranny where the line connects i think there should be a ballbearing but i dont know if both of the lines have one...or just the one with the spring? i was taking it out and a ballbeaing fell and i figured that that is where it was from

Re: tranny line ballbearings?

the spacer thing you are talking about is a plastic ring that is broken in half? That is the thrust washer that adjusts the end lash of the whole rotating assembly. If it's fallen out then your end lash has increased by that much which basically sucks but there isn't anything you can do about it but drive it till it blows.

The ball bearing you are talking about is a check valve on the output line. There is only one.

Re: tranny line ballbearings?

wait, i just looked at the pictures...I don't know what that ring is..I don't think it's part of the transmission unless that's the washer that is supposed to be on the end of the pinion and someone somehow forgot to put it on and it ended up in the pan.

Re: tranny line ballbearings?

if that's the washer that goes on the pinion before the drive gear then someone who shouldn't have taken your transmission apart has taken it apart.

Re: tranny line ballbearings?

oh ok, I was going off of your saying it came out of the pan which it couldn't have without someone throwing it into the pan.

it goes on the pinion before the drive gear.

Re: tranny line ballbearings?

LAN is right, that is a washer that goes on the pinion shaft behind the drivegear assembly.

Re: tranny line ballbearings?

ouch, that pinion didn't break like that cause of wear...that's because the differential was impropperly installed.

The washer goes on the end of the shaft in the 2nd picture before the drive gear. That has nothing to do with the failure of the pinion though. Not having it in would cause the failure of the drive and driven gears and the support bearing. You or someone had the ring and pinon lash way off.

Re: tranny line ballbearings?

What exactly have you done?
Did you remove the pump?

I'll help you out of this but I need to know what's going on and where you are at with it.
