That looks like a pretty cool setup. I have a Casio E100, which apparently they have a model for. Maybe someday...it would be nice to have a good color screen, but my Magellan impresses me with its accuracy and battery life.

If you just need lon/lat, you could get one of those GPS watches and just stick your arm out the window.

As many of you who were on the Covered Bridge Tour at Reading III already know, my GPS (Geographical Practical Sense) doesn't work too well. This happens many times, usually when I am driving and the Naviguesser is riding shotgun. I believe the problem has to do with the internal antenna. Since the unit has matured and in cold weather it doesn't pick up signals as well as it once did. I believe it was George Costanza who first coined the term "Shrinkage" to describe this phenomena.

I didn't see it mentioned,

but my garage door opener doesn't work either (in addition to radar detectors and EZ pass toll boxes). I have a ebony mica '92 model.

I have to open a window, or the sunroof, and stick the opener out. Not too bad for the door opener - except on days of tropical downpours - which we've had a lot of lately.

I have a radar detector I'd like to use, but I think my arm would get too tired.

I think you're having trouble mastering your domain again, Larry.
A little Marvel Mystery mixed with Motor Honey should restore the slickness you've been missing.
Glad to be of help - Ron.

I just bought an active antenna on eBay - my second eBay purchase!

1363021643

It's not weather proof, but it doesn't need to be, so that's okay. What I dig is that it's THIN and has a 20ft cable. I'll let everyone know how it works out when I get it.

That explains the hairy palms. The concoction will also keep you from throwing a rod prematurely.

Ron.

Antenna

Well, I put the antenna in the trunk last night, hooked it up, and went for Chinese take-out. Let me tell you, I have never gotten the reception from my Magellan that I did last night - in OR out of the SVX. I had pegged signals from at least six satellites at once, but more often then not it was more like eight. While moving slowly, I saw an estimated accuracy of 3ft. While moving faster than 25mph (something my car is no longer capable of - read my post in tech q&a), it read '0ft.'

'I am absolutely certain of where I am,' it tells me.

Re: Antenna

No no, it should be "I'm absolutely certain of where the US military wants me to tell you you're at. A few more feet to your left should do it."

BTW: Sorry to hear about the tranny. These tranny stories are starting to make my skin crawl. Everytime my tranny surges between gears, I think "this is it!"

Thanks for the note of concern. My transmission has always shifted perfectly, so I'm really hoping it's something peripheral like the flex plate or pump.

The problem is getting somebody to disassemble, diagnose and repair it in time. It almost looks like my only option is me, and I don't know what I'm doing.

Reinforcements may be on the way.
