Front CV wear

So I'm getting ready to buy a '92 Teal SVX, and I drove/inspected the car yesterday. It's got some issues such as leaking valve cover gaskets, power steering reservoir o-ring leak, drivers side power seatbelt issue, and both front CV boots are in 2 pieces.

Now for the question... Is there anything I should look for that could cause premature wear on the front CV's? Or could they just be cracked from age?

Mike

Time goes by

It's more likely that the 16 year old CV's have just given in to attrition.
I had to do mine just a few weeks ago, and decided to just go ahead and do both fronts. I am very happy I went the full route.
Next is to schedule the Valve Covers. How many miles?

It has 71,xxx miles on it.

I was actually thinking of pulling the engine and re-sealing/major servicing it before doing anything.

I was just wondering if something like a worn pitch stopper or mount would be a possible source.

I would doubt that. More likely the cause is just age.
Now would be a good time to do all that work if your planning on pulling the engine. You'll have quite an advantage having it out.
