Cool aftermarket grill

I don't know how many guys on here have seen this grill, but I really like it. Perhaps one day i'll even buy it. Just thought I would throw this out there for anyone who's interested. Oh, and the car also has a clear lens kit on the headlights.

i don't want the mods to think i'm advertising here, so didn't post that stuff. (If i break any rules, let me know guys) it's at http://www.smallcar.com/index.php?ac...d&productId=70 - the rest of the info is on their website. They have some other good stuff too for svx's like a DIY 5 speed swap kit that has the mounts and stuff but also has the interior parts to make it all look nice.

I don't think I know what that looks like. I didn't really realize there were any different grills from factory. Would you post a pic or a link? I'm interested to see it.

smallcar's products are eh at best

The grill looks okay, but you have to get in between the mesh with a dremmel and clean it all up, then spray the mesh FLAT black. The grill also needs to be painted t match the car

The clear lenses CAN be done very very nicely with alot of patients...but not the corners...there's NO saving them things

Ask Earl about their 5 speed kits

But dont mind me, Im a stickler for quality work, and have high standards for alot of things

hey, i post stuff so I can hear about other peoples experiences. If their stuff is MEH at best, then I'm not going to pay the prices they are asking. Those prices demand a FREAKIN SWEET! Thanks for the heads up.

I was considering their 5 speed trany kit...

for 4,000.00 installed till I found out their warranty.
30 days on used parts and one year on new parts. Only problem is almost all parts are used.
I went with a Subaru factory automatic from Auburn for a few bucks less with a 2 year warranty. Couldn't justify $4,000.00 for 30 days. My car has to run. Also free loaner at the dealer!!
the prices and quality of the clear light thingies and the grill didn't peak my interest as well.
I just went for new headlights and they have been great.
I wonder a lot that if our cars had been made with clear corners, how many of us here would buy a replacement like the original ones if we had a chance I personally don't mind the way that Italian dude designed then, however, I am always trying to work out a different grill.
Just a thought... or two.
Take care,
Keith

Classic SVX
I installed the smallcar grille/clear lenses on my car. I really like the grille.

But the clear lenses where not very easy to install and only look good from 10' away. I mostly wanted to switch them because I could not stand the yellowing stock headlights anymore, and no matter what I tried it didnt get rid of the yellowing.

On my car this is a temperary solution and I plan on getting rid of the headlights sometime in the spring and buying the expensive glass ones if I can find them. I've already spent thousands on my car, and will be spending a lot more on body work, so I say whats a little more $ for nice headlights?

My car:

Looks pretty good to me...

When you want to get rid of em, keep me in mind - I want a set, but can't justify spending $150 on two pieces of plastic... I'd like to get em used.

The clear headlights do look really good if you do them VERY carefully and with a few extra tricks that go beyond what anyone at Smallcar would do as far as level of detail they can look pretty much stock.

In my opinion they update the front end a TON and even the glass headlights can not compete there.

But again, it takes a LOT of work and some ingenuity to get them to look like they belong under close inspection - but of course most people are ever going to see your car from less than 10 feet away so even a hack job looks better under those circumstances than brand new stockers, IMO.

Either way, they are way to spendy for pieces of plastic. I probably wouldn't have spent that much money on them, especially considering the work involved to get them to look how I wanted.

I'm not so interested in the clear headlights right now. I do like the look of the smallcar grill though. I've never seen that 97 grill before. I really like that. I can't imagine that it costs more than smallcar's stuff. Where did you find it? Were you able to get it from a dealer? I'd prefer OE quality over random aftermarket.

You can get a '97 grill for about $140.
