You don't have to start the engine. You just turn the key to the on position so that the dash lights come on.

Alex

There is no need to actually start the engine to run the test. You only need to turn on the ignition, i.e. the dash lights. Don't engage the starter.

In fact It would not be possible to do the test with the engine running, you have to shift the lever from range to range, and switch on and off the manual [MANU on the dash] button I think, if I remember correctly.

Detail is on the How-To Here

The second one at the bottom is the detail for TCU codes. There are two methods, one for existing codes, one for old codes. Note at the top, it starts with ignition OFF.

Try again without starting her up

Same story Alex. With the ignition on, pressing the throttle sends the TPS signal to the ECU, regardless if the engine is running.

This causes the end of diagnostic routine, and your power light will then blink out the codes.

It will repeat one code over and over if there is only one. Otherwise it will blink them out one after the other.[and repeat]

My black SVX looks cadaverous at the moment. Electrical entrails all hanging out under the dash.

You can only learn by practice and asking questions. Let us know what code you get.
