John- Where did that wiring diagram come from? Which models/years/market does that cover?

It appears to be equivalent to Subaru's diagram for the '92 USDM, but has some slight differences (and possibly errors). I've posted Subaru's diagrams in this other thread: Central locking switch in gear shift area.

[Edit- the diagram is the same as in Subaru's "Service Procedure" for the security system. That guide mentions features that were only in the earliest versions of the module, so the diagram probably is from 92]

Scott- Any luck investigating the problem? I'm curious to hear whether it's yet another case of "security module gone bad."

Mine will not work with the remote any more. If I lock it it will stay locked. I can't get out of the car on the driver side. I puilled the fuse so now it is only manual lock (like the old 60 cars.) Here is the question: Can I go to a auto place and have an after market Auto door locks installed? OR is it cheaper to have it fixed at the Subi Dealer $$$$$$ . It is a pain to unlock with a key .

I think you just need to replace the security module and they would work again. That is what most members have done with that problem.

Where is it located? What is it? Where do I get one and How much $$ are you talking ? Can I replace it myself? $150.00 would get me Auto start with locking doors. Is it cheaper to go the other way?

You couldn't do it for $15, but for around $50 you could. The module is behind the glove box and is a pain to get to. You may be better off going the other way.

You ought to make sure the problem is not simply your transmitter -- check the batteries, and test it with another SVX. If you only need to replace the transmitter, that would be the cheapest/easiest fix.

Are you saying that when the driver's door is locked while you're inside the car, you can't simply pull the inside door handle to open the door?

(anyone)- Are 92s and 93s supposed to work that way?

On my '96, whether the door is locked or unlocked the inside door handle will always open the door. My passenger side does not work that way -- must first unlock the door lock lever (either manually or electrically) before the inside door handle works.

If your security module is toasted, as Earl suggested you can get a replacement. Used ones come up for sale here from time to time. There are several folks currently parting out SVXs that might have them.

Alternatively, you can get an aftermarket keyless entry system (optionally with alarm). The least expensive ones cost less than even a used OEM module.

It's possible to connect a new system in place of your factory security module -- without needing to cut or splice any wires. See this thread by PhatWeasel: After market alarm install document

I'm finishing up R&D on a plug that mates with the factory security connector, which will make this solution even neater. Details coming soon.

I'd be really surprised if you can get a keyless entry/remote start system for $15, let alone with installation (unless you're getting it at a huge discount somehow).

If you do go with an aftermarket unit, you really should remove the factory module, whether you or a shop does the install.

If the OEM unit is not removed, it will conflict with the other and give you lots of problems.

If you're going to install another alarm system, you must UNPLUG the factory alarm module. I was suggesting you do that yourself rather than letting an alarm installer do it, so they don't screw up your glovebox.

Taking out the door lock fuse cuts power to the "Door Lock Timer" module. That module, in turn, is what powers the electric door lock actuators in the doors. So you'll need to replace that fuse for the power door locks to work again, regardless of whether you install another factory alarm module or an aftermarket system.

Like I said in my previous post, you might find that your factory alarm module is good and all you need is a new transmitter. That would save you a lot of money and avoid the risk of having an alarm installer butcher your car's wiring.

Find another SVX owner who has the factory alarm. Test your transmitter with their car, and their transmitter with your car.

Suabaru dealer tried to fix it, they said it can only be re-programed with both Transmitters that came with the car I can only find one. I bought new batteries for it and tried the sequence they tell u. I never get the beeps after I push the button 20 times fast. let's see another SVX that has an alarm in this area.................

That's BS. The person who told you that is clueless.

People lose or break their transmitters all the time, and they are able to program in new ones. You can program just one transmitter.

Here's a basic test you can try: Does the security button on the dash still turn the system on and off? (Press Security button to turn system on -- red light on the button should flash continuously. Press to turn off, light goes out).

Many people have reported that when their module died, the light either stayed off, or in some cases stuck on.

You might be surprised. You're not that far from New York, and I know there are a bunch of SVX owners around there. It's worth asking on your regional forum.

Are you going to the Reading meet next month? You'll definitely find several people there

SVXdc - Have you developed a mating connector that works with the SVX security wiring. I may need one to install an aftermarket security system.

I have a problem with my new 92 SVX that is similar to Bwana's. Last month I purchased a one owner with 103,000 miles, It has a problem with the Security System. The LED on the dash does not come on when pushing the Dash Security switch, although the switch does do something. I checked the LED and it's dead, but I see a pulsing DC on the LED wires at the switch. With the LED flashing, when I push the remote button the horn always beeps only once. It doesn't beep twice when unlocking, or 4 times when the security system is off. When the horn does sound you have about 1 second to open the doors, then they lock again. It seems like it is always locking the car since you hear the horn once, followed by the short delay before the doors lock, which is the normal locking sequence on a working security system. When the car has been locked with the remote, you can unlock it with the key and the alarm will not sound. So the security system has not been armed. If you disarm the alarm with the dash switch, the remote will not unlock or lock the doors.

I have tried to reprogram the remotes but nothing happens.

I can Lock and Unlock the car by grounding either pin 15 or 14 at the Security module connector, with the module unplugged. So the Door Lock Timer seems to be working correctly, but not the Security module.

It seems that the best way to solve this problem is to replace the Subaru module with an aftermarket module.

Yes. Announcement to come "real soon now"

I've been e-mailing Jim about this, but here are a few general tips:

At least one person on the forums here said that unplugging the security module for several days somehow cured the problem they were having.

cars101.com has a page about the operation of the keyless entry systems on various Subarus, including the SVX. Towards the bottom it mentions this:
Quote:
Update Note: the SVX theft deterrent system was upgraded for the 92 1/2 model, and retrofitted free for all customers whose SVX's had the original theft deterrent system-- consisting of a new security module and a new security system switch.

This unit has a permanent memory, and only requires programming for new remotes [in other words, it won't forget whenever you disconnect the car's battery].

[programming procedure that we already know]

Not using the keyless entry for an extended period of time may result in the need to replace the module. You'll know this if the lock/unlock feature does not work after audible evidence that the new remotes were effectively programmed (i.e. the horn beeped during the programming process) or if the lock/unlock feature is slow to function (i.e. you have to push and hold the remote button for an inordinately long time before the lock/unlock feature operates).
Also see Subaru TSB number 15-97-93, dated 01/26/1993, "Security System - False Alarms Information" (copy posted here). There was a defect in the original security switch used in 92s and early 93s. The switch and module were eligible for a free replacement, but some owners may not have heard about it.

There is another TSB, number 15-90-91, "SVX Security System Precaution." Does anyone have a link to that document? Alldata.com no longer offers them free.
