4.44 Adventure Begins

So I am buying a 4.44 off Ebay and a diff from a junkyard. Beginning this weekend, we will remove exhasut and rear end.

Next weekend put in new trans and diff, weld exhaust back on, start, drive, enjoy!

I still have some questions:
Should the new trans come with solenoids?
How can i make sure the diff and trans match?
Am I freaking out too much?

PS- Greenmarine, can you help Saturday from 9-5ish?

Thanks all!

(1) They are inside the trans.

(2)Post the trans # so we can see it.
when you pull the new rear apart count the teeth or look for the 40:9 on the ring gear.

Tom,

Please start a thread with the trans #'s for 3.545, 3.900, 4.111, 4.44 and with the teeth count of each? That would be useful.

4.44 = 40 ring teeth and 9 pinion teeth
3.545= 39 ring teeth and 11 pinion teeth
Why would you need to know anything else?

Asking a guy from West Virginia about teeth, is like asking a guy from N.A.S.A. about metric conversions!

LMAOABE, again!
4.11 could be 37 ring teeth and 9 pinion teeth
and 3.90 could be 39 ring teeth and 10 pinion teeth
The math is right, but I bon't have them in front of me.

That's always fun

I can confirm that you are correct with the 3.9
and 3.70 is 37 ring teeth and 10 pinion teeth

I can confirm the 4.11.

So,
3.545 has 39/11
3.700 has 37/10
3.900 has 39/10
4.111 has 37/9
4.444 has 40/9

Now, let's attach differential housing numbers to the various gears.
Tom's good for two numbers, eh?

Interesting, the 11 count pinion shaft of the 3.454 is the one that breaks!

Tom, check your email.

Sorry to hijack like this, but it is sorta related...

if you change your tranny like this, what is the effect on the power feature? does it still work or does the light just become a engine code light?

Skip

Since it is still an 4EAT automatic trans, and he is using the stock wiring, and TCU, the power light will work the same.

BUT since it so much fun, it will be ON ALL THE TIME!!!!!

Gas mileage is still 18 around town and 23 on the highway for me.
Budfreak claims his gas mileage went up.
BTW, Di all ways got five more than me on the highway, before and after the G.T.
