Very generally:

white = coolant
blue = oil
black = fuel/mixture

Some more knowledgeable folks here can help you narrow things down if you provide more details. Good luck.

could also be power steering fluid leaking onto your cats and the smoke coming up in the engine bay.

First thing that I would reccomend would be to top off all of your fluids all the way. In a couple days, see which ones are low, and you will know what is leaking. The SVX power steering return hose and pressure hoses will leak, as will the engine cam and crank seals. Coolant will also leak from the radiator hoses, and on some, the transmission fluid lines will become old and brittle, and crack, causing leaks. How many miles are on it? At a certain mileage, things are guaranteed to leak, but fixing the problem will not be tough, or terribly expensive.

Also, you could try popping the hood, standing in front of the engine bay, and start it up. See where the smoke begins to come out of. Generally, if it is the passenger rear, it is power steering. Drivers rear would be transmission fluid, anywhere around the intake manifold would be oil, and anywhere from the front would be coolant. This isnt ALWAYS accurate, but it is for the most part.

Welcome to the site!

We are going to need as much information as you can provide to help diagnose your issue. For instance:

Is the smoke coming from the engine bay or is the engine smoking from the exhaust?

thank you

thank you so much for all your advice. it was smoking in the engine, not the tailpipes, but since has stopped. the oil pump had been replaced, so my guess it was just residual gunk and has now burned off. but believe me, i am keeping an eye on it. i love this car!
