Hey, for us n00bs, could you elaborate on what the heck a 93 Impreza with an RA driveline is?

Thanks!

WRX STi Type RA is a high performance impreza that was only sold in Japan in limited numbers, their EJ20 makes 280 hp, the RA tranny is a six or a five speed manual(cant remember) and is said to be the strongest ever made by subaru, they run a rear end with the same gear ratio as the 22B, they were a very limited very fast car intended for track use...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=906047

heres the exact car... it needs help visually and it has some mechanical problems but would be a very strong car and a real force to be reconed with when it is totally done... both are going to still cost me money, STi would probably be quicker and get better gas millage but the SVX has pure sex appeal that is hard to match... I hope thats some info for you guys to kind of help me to decide... its a tuff choice for me really

True, Impreza is pretty bulletproof, but still - over an SVX?

Ahhhhhhhh...I see! Thank you!
As for the choice - I'd still go with the SVX. But that's just me, I like quiet/refined/fast/ and the styling. And yeah the automatic. I even have an automatic in my WRX if that tells you anything.

I don't know about that, put a coat of black paint on it and tidy things up and it could be a real stealth fighter. If it's what is described the thing sounds STRONG.

SVX hands down. That RA is a Geo Metro on Steroids. No class in the body style. A look at the wheelbase says it has no handling, and a rough ride.

A Metro on Steroids.

I agree. The SVX may suffer from a lack of an aftermarket but is still 10X nice than a little riced out pocket rocket. Don't get me wrong the WRX is one hell of a car, beign a former owner I'm sold on the car. But the older Impreza aren't my bag. Plus its a "conversion" and not a true RA. I'd be weary about that.

what do you mean "conversion" not a true RA? it has KYB shocks and P1 springs, the RA motor, LSD, and tranny, its basically an RA minus body mods..
as for no handling, forgive me if im wrong but aren't imprezas known for handling??? I just want to decide, but then again if I get a ECU and shift kit for christmas i would probably keep the SVX anways
