Weird parking light problem!! help@!
So upon returning home i found my parking lights stay on even with the car off. If i turn the car on and turn the parking lights off, they stay on!!! when i arm my alarm with the car off, it beeps but the brightness of the lights dont change. I have just disconnected teh battery in the meantime. The headlights work properly, and shut off with the car. Since its not my daily its more of a headache then a serious problem. Do you guys have any ideas or maybe some help from the FSM's about what else is connected to the lights and what could be cuasing the parking lights to stay on?
thanks alot for the help! phil

The front lights are earth switched. You probably have a wire shorting to the body somewhere.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally depress the parking light switch on the dash?

We see this ALL the time. He probably activated the parking light switch on the dash. It allows the parking lights to stay on even when the car is turned off. Owners manuals are wonderful things Dave |

Don't feel bad. You'd be amazed how often we see this at our shop. Just recently I had a garage call me asking about a new headlight switch for a Subaru Outback he was working on. I had a feeling that he really didn't need a new switch, so I asked him what the problem was with the car. He said the parking lights wouldn't shut off, so the headlight switch must be faulty. I told him to turn off the switch on top of the steering wheel

I love situations like this, so much in fact that I made a thread about them: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26544
No matter how many times things like this happen to me, I still never start with the easy solutions. Some recent examples: Bought a knock sensor for like $100 (tax, shipping to Canada) from subaruparts.com because I had a code 28. By the time I got the sensor, I had run through the crappy tank of gas that caused the knock, and the CEL went away. Failed to realize that the DIN pocket for under my head unit was called a drop in until I had the double DIN cage out and was ready to mount it up...
