Try swapping 2 injectors to see if the problem follows the injector.

Hold on a second......I'm not a mechanic but go back to the original problem with the rough idle....You said the car didn't run when you got it and the camshaft/camshaft pulley was damaged. Did someone put one in at one time that didn't have the correct lobe geometry/specs? Does the camshaft have to be lined up and adjusted a certain way? Is the pulley seated correctly?....I'm just as curious as anyone here.
I've heard cars with some outrageous cam setups and do have some funky idle sounds. |

im back
WELLL... After a long break of doing nothing about the Subaru, problems continue.
I tried starting the car up 2 days ago and it wouldn't start, Yesterday I cleaned the plugs. All 3 one the drivers side were wet(with gas), and the 3 on the Passenger side were all black. While they were out, I cranked the engine with the fuel pump disconnected. I cleaned the plugs, and the car started. I constantly had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. I let it go to low and it died, would start back up, just sputter. So before cleaning the plugs again today, I went to our local dealer and bought a new Coolant Temperature Sensor after seaching on this forum for some info. Installed it, and no difference in starting. So today I cleaned them again, and still no luck. I tried messing with the TPS, and still no difference. Exept for a code for the TPS. The problems before I gave up on this car for a bit, was that if the fuel injector cable was disconnected, it wouldn't have any affect on the car. Only 2 specific injectors caused the engine to die.. What the heck is goin on!? Thanks for any help, I'm hoping to have this car ready for winter. PS:Can I still clear trouble codes if the engine doesnt start? -Slawek |

do you have a spare engine at your disposal? Try swapping out crank and cam senors, they could be doing all of this to you..

well what I am seeing right now is basically the same thing that was happening to me when I did my engine swap. At least check the resistances of the cam sensors... One on the Driver's side of the timing cover and one right next to the crank sensor on the top of the motor dead center in the front

Why is your FWD light on?

About the crank and cam sensors, how do they work?, the drivers side pully we're using might not be the original, would this effect anything? |

well, as long as it is an SVX pulley. I highly suggest checking that side sensor and see if it is cracked esp. after a front end accident

Might want to take it out unless your rear diff is grinding.

no luck
I belive I've tried it without the fuse in, and there weren't any problems.
About the starting problem. After school I swapped both crank position sensors int the center with the ones from the extra wiring harness we have. I was hoping it would solve the problem, but no luck. It'll hiccup a little, try to start. I took out all the plugs and all but 2 were soaked. one was completely black, the one that when injector was pulled, it would kill the engine. The other was also an engine killer, and looked in good condition. So now its either ignition, or fuel. I've tried swapping injectors, which didn't help. I've checked if there is spark a while ago, before these problems. I'm going to have to check again. |
