Deep DoDo for the Holidays

I think that I will have to sell my SVX, grow a moustace, change my name, and move to Algiers.

I am at work. My boss just called me up. It seems he has the hots for a Bordeaux Pearl '94 SVX LSi that he saw last night at Cherry Hill Subaru in Cherry Hill, NJ (approx. 2 miles east of SOA HQ). The car has 115k miles on it and is priced at $6900 AS IS.

I am dead meat the first time the tranny goes klunk after he buys it.

Please, please Santa let him buy a Lexus instead.

Just make sure he immediately installs...

a tranny cooler and opts for some kind of extended powertrain warning. yes you are in trouble.

i bet you that the tranny in that car has already been rebuilt.

Where on the human body do moustaces grow?

Hi All,

T'was the nite before Christmas and my boss bought a '94 LSi,
What a great guy, what a great guy.
He just called me at work, to tell me the news.
So when his tranny goes, I'll be singing the blues.
He seems happy as a pig, in the proverbial muck
So for 2002 I may be sh*t out of luck.

My appologies to poets everywhere.

Randy,

I've already planted the seed. Now, Ive got to give him just the right amount of fertilizer. Too much and I'm toast, too little and he won't come. "Just a bit of a schmear", as they say.

Well, if he makes it to the Reading meet, he'll be getting much more than a "schmeah" with his bagel. He'll get the full-blown deal with lox. Should we invite him to the "bah" so he can hear you sing????

Talking

Well Larry, you'd just better hope he's got his wheels pointing in the right direction, because if'n he don't; can you imagine the effect of 25 SVXers all pointing fingers with humiliating sneers upon their faces? Not a career builder for you!
Ron.

I don't know why you keep saying things like "schmeah & bah".
That is basically a Boston accent, not a NYC accent.
I realize to the "untrained" ear (read southern) all us Yankees (and Yankee fans) sound very much alike; but there are nuances and inflections. I had hoped that by this time, with all the exposure that you've had to North East culture (Reading PA twice,& Vermont once), you would have grasped these subilties .
You must have listened to way too much country & western and blue grass music in your younger years. I guess I'll just have to expose you to good music ( Larry don's flamesuit, which he bought at the DuPont Nomex Company store). Hey, if I can learn to say "shurnuff and maaam", you can pronounce your "R's" properly.

I am thinking of a 12 step program for you.
1) We'll start with 'Rock-a Billy' (Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly, etc.)
2) Then Elvis.
3) Chuck Berry, Little Richard, & Fat's Domino
4) Doo Wop - Group Harmony
5) Instrumental Rock (Dwayne Eddy, Bill Dogget, Champs, etc.)
6) Motown (Temps, Tops, Supremes, etc.)
7) British Invasion Rock (Dave Clark 5, Beatles, Stones, etc.)
8) Hard Rock (Bachman Turner Overdrive)
9) Flower Power ( Mama's & Papa's, Strawberry Alarm Clock, etc.)
10) Jazz ( Miles Davis, Benny Goodman, Theolonius Monk, etc.)
11) Opera (3 Tenors, Mario Lanza, Andrea Bocelli, etc.)
12) Classical ( Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, Montovanni?, etc)

By the time you've completed this course, you won't be able to say "Y'all" and your ear will be ready for Frank (Chairman of the Board).

Larry III
You may notice that I left out "Easy Listening". You can ride elevators for that. I also left out Gregorian Chant and German Opera. I didn't want to ruin you forever.
Better get that old CD player refurbished.

Part of my CD collection in my car is "Wagner's Greatest Hits" which includes some of his more "Wagnerian" opera pieces. LIving in rural (and I mean rural) Kentucky, I obviously could not let anyone know that I was listening to classical in my younger years. My family members would've thought I was "funny." Not funny "ha ha" but funny . . . well, if you watched Slingblade, you know how that phrase ends (must be PC ).

As far as the others on your list, I was introducing many of them to the public (BTO) and spinning the others as "Golden Oldies" (yes, spinning . . . real vinyl on real turntables) during my radio days (72-84), the last years of which our top 40 station changed to 'Easy Favorites" with the "Chairman" "Barbara" a little "Stan Goetz" "Englebert" et al.

I detest Country Western music (my parents OD'd me on it when I was young), and can only listen to Bluegrass (Owensboro, by the way, is home to the IBMA -- International Bluegrass Music Association) when I've had, at least, a keg of beer (blue grass, BTW, is something I used to smoke -- we called it "moldy dope").

I think this course has already been completed. So theyah!

Randy,

I have a set of old Doo Wop records. They are the original Moonglows on the Chess record label. These records are 78's.
That's 78 rpms to you youngsters. I can still play them on my turntable.

Significant Technical Input
Yup, 78 rpm...the record was twice as thick because it spun more than twice as fast and the needle would cut it in half twice as quick. (well, my mom believed it when I told it to her... But then again she had to stop for a moment and think when I told her that they put taller tires on the rear of cars to save gas, as they would be runnng downhill... )
