silly question-new owner

As ive only just got my svx, fresh of the boat from japan, and the hand books being in japanese, im still wondering what the fan/3rd brake light on the rear parcel shelf is the switch for it is by the gear selector, what is it?, is it standard subaru or after market, is it some sort of air filter?

just a guess, but i think JDM models had cabin air filters for the heavy-smoking Japanese.

Climate control and an enternal filter, not bad for an 13 year old car.
