Autocrossing voids Warranties

This was an interesting article I came a cross, I though should share with the group. I know some of you guys race on the weekends. I am pretty sure most of use here don't have much of a warranty left put you can warn other people.

For the most part this is nothing new. I know my dad's 69 TR6 lost its warranty when he did some light SCCA racing. Most warranties have a disclaimer about any "abuse" to the auto can cause the warranty to be void. It would really be dumb of a company to not have such a disclaimer. It would cost them $$$$ as most people would simply go out and see how far past redline they can get their car before it blows up.

I do think it is quite curious though that Subaru gives WRX buyers a 1 year SCCA membership though.

Thats so subaru dosent have to as many warreny claims on people who are abuse one there cars. They can go to the track and break a trannie and lose there warrente, probley saves subaru money.

Most of them really don't, however, I've heard of some (i.e. Mitsu) autually going into SCCA databases and linking names with owners names. Of course I have no idea if it is true but totally possible. Most just rely on whether or not a car was abused or not according to the mechanics and service managers. Of course they don't want to loose customers but why should a company pay for 5 trannys on a car that is dragged weekly?

As for my dad getting caught. He's honest and I'm sure told the dealer.

That's why I always buy used cars. I'm free to do what I want to the car. Let someone else take the depreciation hit for the first 3 years.

Yeah, I saw that in my last Autoweek. That's one reason why I'll get a used STI and not an Evo...
