Drove my SVX
I predict that, given another few years, those who are left will be posting threads with titles similar to this one...
Anyway, I visited my SVX on Thursday. I was prepared to have to jump it (left the security system on for a month), but it started right up. The rain we've had washed the salt off the roads, so I took the car to lunch. I even went down the freeway one exit and back to stretch it out a little. I really wanted to take her home with me, but I know that more salt is on its way. So I covered her back up and said, 'see you next month.' The above may sound sad, but what's really cool is that this winter I know I don't have major repairs coming in spring. Two winters ago it was the alternator, timing belt, spark plugs, etc. Last winter it was the tranny. This time all that's really wrong is an occasionally noisy cooling fan. Maybe my '3,000 miles per year' plan is paying off...

Nick,
I admire your resolve. I just couldn't stand it, personally. For me, it would be like dieting over the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays --- ain't no way in hell it's gonna happen.

I don't know what kind of winters you have on your little island, Andy, but here in the US midwest winters eat cars. The curb weight of your average Camry decreases by a good 20 pounds a year. My SVX's previous owner (to the best of my knowledge) never stored the car. It's not exactly rotting away, but I'd like to keep it that way. Besides, my commute is now 2.5mi one way. In VT or MI, when I traveled the freeway daily, the SVX seemed more 'justifiable.' Now it just feels fenced in.

2.5 miles!!! I would be in the sea.
I have spent today in a t-shirt, my coat has only come out of the cupboard one this winter. Horray for global warming.

Previously (in both VT and MI), my commute was about 15mi one-way. Once we move into our new building, I'll live almost exactly one mile from work. So I may just walk.
