Gotta side w/L3: the DS-21 had class, very successful aerodynamic body styling, supurb engineering and features for its day (including a hemi-head engine!) and long legs that could cruise all day in comfort. The Deux Cheveaux has more character in its left headlight than most cars with far shorter production runs and was the French answer to transportation for the masses in a post-war economy. It may look unusual to US eyes but it was hugely successful at mobilizing the country and reinvigorating the French economy.

As for ugly designs (for their own sake), I'll vote Pacer (a desperate attempt by AMC to get into the small-car race in the '70's when they had no money for development or new tooling, so used Rambler running gear, with no adjustment in track width and mashed it into a short, wide car) and Aztec, which defies justification.

My mother used to drive a Renault Fuego Turbo. THAT was an ugly car.

Huh. I always kinda dug pacers just for their oddity. Incidentally its the main reason I love my SVX.

If its a WEIRD kinda rare car I like it. If its a popular ugly car I hate it. The Buick Rendevous makes me want to throw up.

It's funny because even Pontiac designers will tell you the Aztec is one of the ugliest vehicles ever. That's becoming a selling point these days. People come to see how ugly it really is, then end up buying it.

My list:

Pontiaz Aztec
Subaru WRX until 2004
WRX STI (mostly cause of that ridiculous hood scoop)
Subaru Baja
Chrysler Crossfire
Dodge Ram pickup (the thing just screams LOOK AT ME IM UGLY)
New Dodge Durango (WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING?!)
Avanti (they took a GM F-body, made it look worse and go
slower, then charged more for it)
Ferrari Enzo
Honda Element

That's all i can think of for now, but there are plenty more out there.

Ha:

"Uglycars specifically excludes all American cars through lack of server space"

I imagine he means 'due to' instead of 'through.' Still, it's funny, and I mostly agree with him.

Hey, and in the feedback section somebody nominated the SVX. The only comment they could come up with is 'what's with that all-glass roof?'

HA!

Saddly I can say I saw an uglier Neon than that one. It was a yellowish-green neon color Neon. It may your eye's bleed if to tried to stare at it too long.

while I think the car I attached below isn't THE ugliest car ever made (but close), it is certainly the ugliest I ever owned (my first car - in 1967 - cost of $50.).

Note: this isn't a photo of the car I owned, just one I snatched off the web. Mine was worse - red w/black vinyl top.

Sorry, lee. I'll have to disagree with you there. My Dad Had a 59 Impala when I was about 10 (1965). White over red. It was sharp for its time. Plus, Dad's was cherry. Brings back lots of memories, thinking 'bout that car.
