Here is another thing about ford that bothered me. Now this might not be a ford only thing but as I hate them, here goes. As anyone know the 5.0 mustang was really a 4.9. But 5.0 sounded better, so whala, 5.0. 4938cc isn't a 5.0. ford math. Now the 4.0 6 in the explorer is you ready???? a 3.8!!!!!! Seems they use galactic rounding in Dearborn. Didn't they tell you in kindergarten that 4 letter f-words are bad????!!!!!

5 of the 10 best sellers

When the vehicle you sell is the least costing one in certain categories, of course your gonna be the best seller. Now, how is it ford can sell their cars the cheapest? Because they don't spend the money on quality, styling, engineering, durability, reliability, power, etc... that the competition does. In short, THEY'RE CHEAP! So to you too!

Now, riddle me this Batman. How is is that although ford's best seller is the F-150 pickup, there are $h!tloads more Chevrolet trucks on the road? Because they're built to last more than a few years. While all the fords are in the junkyard rusting away, the Chevy's are still on the road. And the same thing goes for the other "5 out of 10 best sellers". How many older Taurus', Racecorts, Dangers, and Exploders do you see on the road? Damn few, becuase they're all keeping the F-150 company, while the Cavs, S-10's, Blazers and Luminas are pretty much still running strong. And let's face it, combine the sales of the Silverado and Sierra, and they sell far more than the F-150, they're the same damn truck with just a different face.

Trust me Kelli, give up while you still can. Your not gonna win this one just 'cause your cute.

What's with ford and the "free"star? Are they trying to shed the windstar's reputation?

Please don't equate McDonald's with food for people.

It seems what they are doing is trying to have every car start with F, and every SUV start with EX. God, they come up with some stupid ideas.

Man, someone really has something against pattied, authentic meat-flavored animal bi-product and mystery vegetable sandwichs. Mmmm...authentic meat-flavor...

Question

But......

Can anyone tell me why my daughter's rolling trashcan, the '91 Escort wagon, has made it to 200K without a rust spot, one clutch replacement that was done as a precaution, & an original engine that still purrs? Babied? This car was last washed in '99.

Ron (aFordable).

Oh man i could write pages and pages on Ford. I sold them, serviced them, and the only good thing i can say about any ford is that it's cheap - unfortunately in both senses of the word.

The only reason the F-150 is the best selling truck is because it's the cheapest, by far. F-150's cost on average a full $1000 less than dodge and $2000-$2500 less than chevy pound for pound. Ford's fleet sales account for almost 30% of their truck sales. GM does not include fleet sales in it's production numbers because fleet sales are handled in a totally different manner within GM. Even with all that, GM's trucks outsold ford in the first two quarters of this year, bringing ford's lead to only 20,000 (out of the 760,000 they sell in a year), which means, quite possibly, that this could be the year in which GM outsells ford in trucks. If not, it's going to be close, which is really all GM cares about because they are still making more money (remember they make more per truck). Anyone ever notice the severe lack of GM trucks on used car lots? If not, pay attention to that sometime when you are driving in an area with alot of used car lots. The only place you will find used GM trucks in abundance is on GM used car lots. When i worked for the Pontiac/GMC dealer we had lots of guys trading in their Dodges and Fords for the new GMCs. But when i worked for the Ford dealer the only trucks being traded in were Fords. This says alot about a product. The only reason the explorer sold like it did was because it had no competition. The durango isn't in the same class, and the Blazer? hahaha. GM obviously put very little thought into that truck apparently cause they thought it wasn't really important. For the first few years they were right...but eventually they smartened up and now we have the miracle they call the trailblazer/envoy. Notice how things have changed now that GM really put some thought into the new truck. I'd really rather not even address the performance segment. Ford is once again going down a road on which they have had ZERO success, the road i am speaking of here is of course the RETRO STYLING road. They've already announced the axing of their prized new thunderbird, and they really think that new mustang is going to last? They're going to end up ruining one of the few half-decent images they have left.

Also about the new Freestar van...the thing has barely been on the market but a few weeks and it's already subject to a huge recall. 70,000 of them are being recalled because of faulty child safety latches. Seems to be ford's legacy. When i worked at the ford dealer, about 2 out of every 5 manual tranny mustangs we received had tranny problems right from the factory, with less than 100 miles on each car. I remember one customer bought a 2002 Ranger, and two weeks later the head gasket went and he made a big deal out of it so we just set him up with a new truck altogether...believe it or not (this time it was more like a month later) the head gasket on that one blew too! But did the moron learn his lesson?! No he just got it fixed and kept the truck. I quit that place soon after so i don't know if he had any more problems. But i wouldn't be surprised to find that he did.

As for the old-school escort, i don't know how to explain that one. My girlfriend had a '91 4-door with 181k on it before she got her SVX. It rode like crap, rattled and creaked in every way imagineable. Her right rear door was rusted shut, and niether of the rear windows would roll down. But the thing ran like a dream. Never let her down. I know another girl who has a 94 with almost 230k and it still runs great, no major problems whatsoever. Maybe ford contracted out for that one.

I had to note - someone mentioned about there being no RWD full-size GM sedan...there is. The 2004 Bonneville uses the 4.8L Northstar V8 (285hp) and is available as RWD or AWD. The 2005 Impala will be built off the same platform. Supposedly the year after that GM will dump the current W-body (older grand prix, current impala, and monte) in favor of the modular platform being used for the new Grand Prix, which by virtue of it's design is capable of being configured as RWD or FWD. So then the GP and MC should be available as either a 4-door V6 or 2-door V8. They didn't really specify about options....so it's kinda up in the air right now. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a 5- or 6-speed tranny for either of those cars.
