Post Engine Tick Over Problem

Hello

I have a dilema which is ruining an otherwise enjoyable relationship with my SVX.

The car is a UK model with 37000 miles on the clock. Since 1994 it has been serviced no less than seven times so I believe it has been looked after.

The problem is that when warm the engine misses a beat at tickover (600-1000 RPM), above that it is fine. The problem can be exagerated by putting the car in Drive - just like at the traffic lights. If you put it in Neutral the problem dramatically reduces or goes away. It never occurs when cold, perhaps this is becuase of the higher RPM until warm. It does not occur all the time, just say, 75%.

My local Subaru dealer has no valid input even though they have hooked it up to a computer, three times. Their technicians are helpless without the computer and my wallet has had extensive surgery since talking to them.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Earl

Do a search on MAF. With all the work you've had on the engine they may have "tweaked" the connector.

I'm probably just perpetuating an urban legend, but according to the local subie tech, Most subaru cars don't like Bosch platinum plugs (any of them) and only run well the full 100,000 mile lifetime of the plugs if you use ngk (nkg?) plugs. Subaru charges $12 each, but you can buy them elsewhere much cheaper. He says that he sees legacies and imprezas that start missing a beat on bosch plugs after as little as 10,000 miles quite frequently.

Like I said, probably just an urban legend, but you may want to try it. Probably only cost you $30 plus 2 hours of frustration trying to put together some socket wrench extensions to get the magical length that will let you take out the bolts.
