Did you have evaluators other than your instructors for the finals? In my EMT class we had several instructors, state evaluators, and random EMTs hired as patients evaluating us. I'm often a patient for those type of things, since I have weird vital signs, and I've noticed a huge difference in evaluation criteria. If other people were evaluating you, it might be helpful to hear their opinions about how you did compared to the rest of the class. If you did well in your other courses and this is the only instructor you had trouble with, it could be worth it to fight her grade or to return to the school next session. Otherwise, I'd consider switching schools.

BTW, I know several paramedics who wish they had gone into nursing instead, since there isn't much job flexibility as a medic. On the other hand, some people really like the autonomy of prehospital care.

Sorry this happened.

Kelli - I am sorry that you are in this position. Take some time to sort things out. Review what you have done up to now, what you liked the best as well as the least. Once you can see what you really want to do, plan the best way to get there. These life decisions are not easy ones, but seem to always be there when things get tough. Good luck.

after speaking with a nurse that i work with that i respect very much, i learned that she had failed one of her nursing semesters. she was use to getting the straight A's like i was until i had this class, up until now, the only fail that i ever had was in 7th grade, and that was just one test. she told me to not give up and go back and show them i can do it. swallow it up, don't complain and just do it.

here is my plan now...

go to EMT school this summer and join my squad

start at Sussex co in september

finish nursing school

then when i work in the hospital, pray to god that they have clinical rotation there with the teachers i had

what do you guys think?

Kelli

ps, my classroom teachers and clincal teachers are all the same and they are quite buddy buddy to answer alycone's question

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

It looks like you have a plan. Good luck Kelli. I am sure you will do your best and you should never feel bad if you have done that. I am sure it will work out for you.

Hi Kelly, Sorry I didn't answer your post right away, but I was thinking about your quandary. My kids have often said some teacher was out to get them. I always point out that a teacher does well by getting the most students to pass the course. Not having the smallest number pass. I would also think your only seeing the small picture not the big picture. Even though you talked to other students you don't know exactly how you were scored versus the other students. Would you have killed someone? However, your a bright young woman. I saw a paper weight today that said" Never,Never,Never, Give Up. I thought of you. You want to be a Nurse, do what it takes to get a nursing degree. I'm sure your not the first person to have a miss in their life. Go to the counselor for the nursing program and ask fot his or her advice. I'm sure you will end up with an RN after your name, if thats what you want. Take care, BOBB P/S Keep all of us posted about what happens.
