Angry the antenna project

Anyone know why the retractable white nylon strip woul not gp down into the antenna base/motor?

Following the instructions it seeme that it would be pretty easy to push the end down into the base, and the antenna mast into the base.

Not so. I am wondering if there is something blocking it. I hear the motor running.
