Re: What tools to buy

No, it's on the engine in front of the engine/transmission connection. Look here at the open square hole in the top middle of the picture. That normally has a rubber plug in it that you can pull out and see the flex plate through it.

Re: What tools to buy

Tireiron,
I guess this is the plug you are talking about?
If so, is this really the easiest access to lock the engine in order to tighten the crank pulley bolt?
Thanks.
Bill

Re: What tools to buy

Yup that is it. And that's pretty much the only way to lock the auto in place. If you push down and forward on the tab sticking up it will pop out and you can stick a long screwdriver or pry bar down into one of the holes in the flex plate. Just turn the motor with a wrench on the crank pulley until you get to a good hole. I never said the plug was easy to get to heh. It helps a lot if you pull the intake off the throttle body and some of the large rubber hoses. Makes a lot more room in there. Good luck.

Re: What tools to buy

Thanks. I was afraid you would say that. I was hoping there may be another access from the bottom.
Have you ever tried to use this hole to lock the engine without removing the intake tube off the throttle body? I'm doubtful it could be done.

yes it can, with a solid screw driver, larger size angle it in and put it in the access hole and slowly spin the motor by hand until the screw driver takes up the slack.

Thanks.
FYI Sears Craftsman tools are not always life time replacement. Lowes Kobalt are. They stopped when K Mart bought them out.
