What do you think?
So what do you guys think.
http://www.familyonboard.com/car_boat_vacuums.html It's the first thing on there. The little 12 volt immersion heater. I was thinking about putting it in the washer fluid resovior to heat it up in the winter. With a switch inline. So I could just melt the ice on my windshield just by squirting it. If Lexus's can have it why can't we? Is this plausible/sensible? Lemme know whatchya think.

It says glass, china, or ceramic containers only. I've seen dedicated washer fluid heaters somewhere before, it's an in line thing-a-ma-bobber, draws in the fuild, heats it, send it on to the jets.
Edit: Here ya go, seems to be all these guys do: http://www.windshieldwiperheaters.com/

In years past I ran several feet of windshield washer line around my top radiator hose to pre-heat it before it hit the windshield.
My conclusion was that winter stinks!

Go for it ... for $10 bucks it's worth a try!
Make sure it stays in the centre of the reservoir and you should be good to go It's not going to melt anything in water ! What's the worst that could happen... it's only 120 watts ... that's a light bulb

What would happen if you applied it to a cold windshield in sub 0 temps? Would it crack the windshield? I just use washer fluid that comes with the deicer already in it.

60/40 washer fluid /99% pure grain alcohol. Cuts the ice here in TN, and if you get stuck....

Even with the "de-icer" stuff that's supposed to be good to -25 it still refreezes at about 0 or so...

Ive seen it with nearly boiling water but i doubt any of the heaters that would be used for this purpose would get hot enough to actually crack the windshield. I'm assuming since they are trying to overcome a reservoir already filled with below freezing washer fluid that it would only get warm enough to help cut the ice and not cause any drastic thermal expansion. My 2 cents worth

^^^That's true. I de-ice the car after freezing rain with boiling water straight out of the kettle. I don't think anything halfway to boiling is going to cause damage.

I'm excited now.
Soon maybe I'll start selling kits. Then infomercials! Or maybe not. Either way I suppose I have to try it on my car first. Unless I can use the wifes car that is.....
