Speaking of models, in addition to the L, LS, LS-L, and LSi (US) how many other models are we speaking of? There was an L, an E and LE. Throw in the S4, S3, S40II and the S40.

This is a topic for another thread. The color codes are enough to deal with at present.

This is not as madcap a task as you might think. We ought to do it now before the cars get any older, and before they actually do attain "classic" status.

When you are restoring an older or veteran car, the most difficult thing to replace is often the interior trim. Even getting information on correct trim is a challenge.

We ought to document what trims were available,as a resource for future owners who may want to restore their cars.

Presumably this could have been because it was the "Anniversary" model.

It's like as if they were testing the market to see if the single colour cars would be as acceptable or as well fancied as the original ones with black roof and trunk.
I think the Japanese models went single colour in 94. Our Emerald (434) S40-II does not have a black roof.

James' website reckons that the S40 came in Peacock Blue (269) with a black roof. Having scoured Japanese websites, I have never found a single picture of a car in this colour scheme, so they must be very rare.

Latest Revision

Latest revision of the spreadsheet, based on previous input, and research into lockers and various regional forums.

I have rearranged the chart to group all the LHD together (United States, Canada and Germany) and the RHD (UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand). This way we can see if certain colors were offered according to this configuration.

Latest Version (UPDATED) of the chart, split vertically for easier printing.

The LHD markets (US, Canada, and Germany are in the first block, and the RHD markets (Japan, UK, Australia, New Zealand) are in the block underneath. The colors by country and availability columns have also been switched.

Those are great John, particularly the vertical split one.

I had made a couple of adjustments to the last one you updated, I must check what they were.

One is obvious, the yellow 518 was available in Australia. James will probably know to the letter, but my memory reckons they sold two or three yellow cars at least. So that block can be filled in and confirmed.

Also in relation to Australia, are you certain they were offered the 3 tone 249/250/black? Did somebody confirm they were on sale there in 92/93?

The reason I ask is I think they only got the black/249.

You would see some[three-tones] in pictures there OK, but I would not be surprised if these were imports. NZ in particular is freely able to import from Japan, the Oz revenue makes it difficult.

But if somebody confirmed it to you, I accept it

One last point, I think we may have made a small mistake with 222. The only one I have seen in the UK is blueji's, and John's car is resprayed. Resprayed to the highest quality, mind, and is gray all over. It is possible original 222's all had the black roof and trunk lid. James could confirm this if we checked.

Joe

I took this photo from berger's locker; he is in Yarram, Victoria. I believe this is his 1993 three-tone combination.

Since we have grouped Australia and New Zealand together, there is no real way to differentiate these colors within specific markets as to which ones were able to be imported.

I added this combination to the UK column, with a question mark afterwards.

JJ from Sydney NSW, has a 1992 Pearlie
down_under from Klemzig South Australia, has a 1993 graphite/charcoal
nutshell from Auckland has a Claret/black. Check his locker.
I checked as many lockers and signatures as I could from the Down Under forum. I'm sure I missed a few...

It would be nice if those who have definite color codes from their cars would post them. The above changes have been added to the chart below. Wherever there is a blank space, I have put a ? mark in the availability column:

That is correct - my SVX has a paint code of 222, and the roof and trunk lid are solid black.

My SVX and another identical one are shown in this photo - both have the black roof and trunk lid.

Thanks for that very nice pic Jason, I have saved it to my machine. It confirms what I suspected.

BTW, it is obvious from the pic how difficult it is to see the black roof and boot lid, easy to think it is all gray.

On the same subject, John's gray one at the JAE last year, it looks really splendid with the all-over colour. If you are ever respraying.....
