Hesitation

An interesting problem has developed... The cold start hesitation now happens even after the car is warm. It also happens when I make a quick turn on to a road - it boggs down. Also when crusing in 4th, part throttle, with the converter in lock-up, it hesitates. When I floor it - all is well.

My thoughts are that it is the MAF. What is the best way to clean it (I have seen several opinions). What about fuel pump?

I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts before I hand it over to my mechanic.

Paul

Run SeaFoam through it. If it still does it, (which it probably will.. I've been battling this problem for a year now) my recommendation would be new coil packs. They're about $100 each though, so try to narrow it down to just one of them if you can.

Have you tried celaning the Throtle Body (TB)? My SVX has done that a few times and TB cleaning has cured it.

I take it you've never heard of seafoam, it does this along with cleaning out the fuel system and combustion chambers. Carbon disappears in a big plume of white smoke out the exhaust, 007 style.

I haven't tried Sea Foam. I have 151,000 on the car so it could use some anyway... I cleaned the TB a while back put a new fuel filter in it and I replaced the injectors a couple of years ago. I had a bad backfire problem that was a combination of leaky injectors and bad coil packs. My mechanic found two packs that were bad and replaced them.
I also wonder if it has something to do with the knock sensors dialing back the timing. I have noticed a little bit of spark knock before. I use the correct gas as well.

That's interesting... It does mainly happen when the throttle is slighlty depressed.

I had a hesitation problem in my SVX for a few years. Sold it to SVXfiles and he checked out the TPS and I guess adjusted it to the correct reading and all is well and the torque converter locks up again too. If a coil pack was bad I would imagine there would be a little difference in idling as well. When my coil pack was bad the car idled real rough.
