I finally understand Symmetrical AWD!

I thought it was something about how it worked, but it isnt, after looking at the dealers display I realized that it is simply the fact if you looked at the powertrain from the top it is symmetrical from one side to the other as compared to some systems that have an offset front driveshaft to the drivers or passangers side...

Can someone post a diagram? How else would you transfer power from a transmission when the back of the engine is against the firewall...

Seriously, thats what is... equal length axles. The only other way to do it would be to use a transfer case but that would lose the symetrical design

Transfer case... as in 4wd which is in no way symmetrical... All you have to do is look at a 4wd truck's front differential with its unequal axles and you can see that. all 4 of subaru's axles are equal... which I would think in turn would mean a generally much more balanced car.

Blue = engine
Grey = Gearbox
Red = center diff (or transfer case)





This works in this way


The engine bolts up to the righthand side
The big circle (front diff) is where the front drive shafts connect
The lefthand side shows the transfer between top drive, and bottom drive (center diff).
The rear drive shaft bolts on the back(lefthand side)
(nice and simple, im sure to be corrected in more detail )

AND THIS IS WHY SUBARU IS GREAT
