5mt high idle

I took my car for the maiden voyage tonight, with it's 2002 2.5RS 5mt. It runs but has a few quirks to work out. First off, the car idles at about 2000rpm. All vacuum lines are connected to the intake plenum. I have a feeling that the autos vacuum lines (2 of them) are reeking havoc as they're not there anymore. I cant find where they plugged into and I dont know if I should plug those holes or not. Anyone have similar problems?

Thanks,
John

I have had the same problem at times and if I turn the car off for a couple seconds and then start it again, it will stop doing it.

The problem is caused by the ECU thinking that there is still an autotranny in "drive". The ecu is expecting a load on the engine by an autotranny being in gear. You'll need to ground the neutral pin on the ECU. That will fix it and allow the engine to idle properly during cold starts too.

The 2 lines on the tranny, aren't vacuum lines, they are vent tubes, and weren't hooked up to anything....

That would explain it. I fixed the problem, my intake plenum was kinked at the bottom causing a vacuum leak

Congrats on your conversion!

Have you stopped driving it yet?

The high idle issue is that the idle will never kick itself down regardless of how far you drive. With the fix mentioned in other posts the idle will kick down automatically. I have noticed that if I start driving right away there's still a high idle but as soon as I come to a complete stop the idle returns to normal.

The only problem with this fix is I lose cruise control. To fix this I added a switch to turn it on/off.

Thanks!! I love it. I realized that my high idle was caused by the throttle body not being adjusted after cutting the SVX gas pedal lever (everyone says you don't have to modify it, BS when your using the hydraulic pedalbox!) I haven't hit cold weather yet, but my idle steps down fine and my cruise works just like it did in the auto. I got rid of my NSS switch and wired it to the clutch pedal. Running great and wearing in sofar. I'm already pretty used to it, but the car is alot different coming from the 5mt Ford Escort I drove during the swap, lol.

Yeah, we had an issue where the rod for the gas pedal didn't quite clear the rod for the clutch. We had to grind the end of the gas pedal rod a bit so it would clear.
