New Bearing In, Now Rest of Car is Too Loud!
I just finished pressing in my passenger rear bearing with my brand new Hub Tamer. What a pest the lateral link bolt was to remove. I had to use a 5# hammer with a pickle fork to get it loose. Most of the bearing fell out on the garage floor. Here is a snap of the lovely pitted race and the sock I used to wipe out the metal shavings and burnt grease. Now I can hear the power steering pump groaning. I have a new o-ring coming to fix that hopefully. Thank god AutoZone loans tools. I needed to run there to get the pickle fork and the slide hammer. I did order both sides of bearings but after a test drive, it turns out only the one was bad. I'll fix the other when it starts. The whole process took about 4 hours. Overall the car is not bad, having paid only $1500 for it (1992 w/ 120k on it, actually my father in law bought it for me) and all I have needed to do was put on new rotors and pads. Oh and the wheel bearing. If anyone lives near northwest PA and would like to borrow my tamer, let me know. For a small fee I will rent it out. I found it online for $200. For that price I will keep it.
