From what model year Legacy are we talking?

The mid 90's Legacy 4EATs would be a direct plug-n-play for our cars, but the trans is slightly different from the SVX as there are fewer plates to the clutches. However, with the shorter gearing (i.e. 4.11/4.44 gears) less strain will be put on the trans.

If your trans is on the way out or if you're thinking about adding a little more pep to your SVX, a trans swap would be a good way to go!

P.S. One important note, Legacys came with different gearing depending on model and trim level so you'll need to be very careful in selecting a trans. In general, the N/A Legacy sedans came with 4.11 gears, while the turbo Legacy's had 3.90 gears. The Legacy Outabck had 4.44s.

There are some differences between trannys.

Here's a thread that will explain the differences. There are also links to other threads with further explanation.

I put an SVX transmission in my Legacy Turbo Wagon.

Good Luck.
