Power Steering issue

When I cold start my car, the power steering squeals and it is difficult to turn. If I try to turn it sitting still, all the idiot lights come on. After 30-45 seconds of driving, all of the noise disappears and the steering is flawless. There are no leaks, the fluid level is full, and there is a new "O" ring on it. Does anyone know what causes this and is there a fix? Thanks. The belts are also new.

Thanks for sharing. I can't ffigure it out, unlrdd the PS steering fluid doesn't circulate for a minute or the belts need a minute to warm up and expand. I would love to know what really goes on.

Mine does that ever since I put PS fluid in the PS reservior, cause we all know our SVXs use ATF for power steering and PS fluid is BAD for our cars.

The problem is not with the power steering. It is most likely your crankshaft pulley has separated. Either that or the belt is just not tight enough.

Using "power steering fluid" instead of ATF isn't likely to cause trouble. I agree with Earthworm that it's a belt/drive problem, as the illuminated warning lights would indicate that the alternator is likely affected. When you start the car, these accessories simply aren't turning as fast as they must for proper operation.
