Re: Avon tyres?

I saw those advertised on the Tirerack the other day. The reviews seem to be ok, but the choice of name is horrible. If I ordered a product with Avon in the name, my wife would probably think makeup or household supplies were on the way...

Honestly, for a '97, the wheel size is still 16x7.5". You don't have to stick with the stock 215 tires, and could upgrade to 225/50. Harry (newsvx) did that with no problems...

the old 225-50s change the speedo about 5% faster since it's a lower tire(less circumference). Did you change the tranny gear?

Can't speak to Avon tires (US made) for the car market, but Avon tyres (UK product) have been around a long time for the motorcycle rider. I am currently running a set of their Venoms on my 1975 Norton.

Tirerack bought the name or license for cars. My pal just Avon'd his Valkyrie. Great old UK tyre name, it is.

I always thought 225/50/16 was the stock size.

A 245/45/16 fits nicely, and gives you more contact area. Larry III has a TERIFFIC site/link in his locker named spedometer error. WE have these tires on Nicks 96, DI's 92, and untill fathers day my 92. I pull more than 1G braking, it's a lot of fun.

I think they thought it would put less strain on the rear bearings.
