Too Cool

Could too cool ATF cause slippage between 1st and 2nd on the upshift? Its been cool around here lately. It took me ten minutes on the highway last night to get the TC to lock up. So I'm wondering if the slight bit of slippage I've been having today might be because of cool temperatures of the ATF...Thanks.

I think it's a remote chance if you have added thickeners and other AFT additives. Can I assume from your post it's slipping under heavy accelleration?

I would answer no. What does it do? Does it flare or is there a delay in shifting?

I've been through -40° weather without problems like that. (So has my car )

I agree with David. I think it's unlikely that your ATF is 'too cool,' causing the slip. If anything, the colder it is outside the happier the SVX is.

I mean, when it gets as cold as David described (and it did when I lived in VT), you can expect any car to make noises and take a minute to warm up and act normally. But we're not talking about -40, are we?

No. Not serious cold temps. It is a slight flare, maybe to 3500RPM on the 1,2 upshift and only under very light throttle. Doesn't happen all of the time either. I think I'm going to drop the pan today to see if there's any blockage...

i dont know how rellavent this is to your specific problem but the TCU forbids lockup and overdrive if the ATF is below a certain temperature.

I think it's unlikely that, if you have some sort of blockage, you're goign to find it by droppng the pan. By all means, change the ATF, clean out the pan and magnet and see if that helps. But I'd be surprised. Right now it sounds to me like either you've got a clutch nearly worn out, you need to adjust your brake band or your TPS is going bad.

The TPS can cause a slippage? Sends a faulty throttle input and causes flare between gears? Can that be cleaned/adjusted or is it a replacement issue?
The list of things to do to my new car keeps going and going and going....but hey..that's the price we pay
