SVX FLS (Flickering Light Syndrome)
Naive rambling ....
Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed that both my interior lights and headlamps are flickering when the engine is running, and that it's especially noticeable when idling. The symptom has been coming and going (mostly coming as of late), and I'm wondering what could be the problem, considering the alternator -- and battery -- are only six months old. The only other problem I've noticed in my SVX is a strange high pitched siren-like whine (not a squeal) in the engine compartment after starting the car and first driving off ... a whine that is exquisitely throttle sensitive: the barest, lightest touch on the gas and the sound gets much louder and higher-pitched. This and the flickering lights don't seem to be related. Hmm. |

I'd suspect the voltage regulator, (which is mounted within the alternator). Bummer, but it sounds like you might have a 'bad' 'new' alternator.
Get it checked out before you fry something. -Mark |

Boxowhine.
The alternator will produce a whine from the magnitic field when charging hard, but could your noise be a loose belt?
Harvey.

Thanks, guys. The alternator (and labor) is still under warranty, so I'll it take the car in this week and have it checked out.
