Re: 1994 Barcelona Red 5-speed manual

Sean486 asked for some more pictures of the bodywork that needs tending. Here they are.

Thanks Tom.

WDB,

I am getting a ballpark quote to do the bodywork. Based on that estimate, I may be in touch.

You're surprised by this? I would expect more for a top notch job. Just saying...

A little. People were saying buying a swapped car and painting it would be better than buying a good auto and swapping in a 5 speed. Wdb's price plus the body work would bring me up to $6400. Then I need to replace the rear seat bottom and one or both of the front seats. Not sure what that will cost but I am guessing at least another $100. I need to find out what a 5 speed swap will cost me to properly compare.

Re: 1994 Barcelona Red 5-speed manual

I appreciate the attention everyone. I'm open to offers. The car really does have to go.

There is no way I can recoup my own costs, so I figure that finding it a good home is the next best thing I can do.

When i was doing them jays swap costed him about 4k give or take a couple hundred... so body work will likely be cheaper

Re: 1994 Barcelona Red 5-speed manual

I thought long and hard about buying this car but I just can't do another SVX at this time. However I truly believe this is a great car that needs to be saved. Some TLC and a repaint would make it very nice. If someone on the network is interested in buying it I am offering to donate a nice grey leather rear seat with no tears provided you pick it up. I am about a 50 miles west of the cars location, an hour or less.

I know I've talked with you a few weeks ago and had plans to come down to look at it then my truck failed on me. I purchased another truck and am in the process of selling the one that died so if it's still available in the coming week(s) I am going to be planning to get down there again to look at it. I'll PM you about potentially coming down that way next weekend.

Re: 1994 Barcelona Red 5-speed manual

When I was looking for a new front seat for the 92 I got all kinds of offers. Rear seat bottom would not be hard.. Worse case senario is seat covers. It would look nice with Red and white seats. Paint, you could do a cheap Macco job. Do the body work yourself . To me running good is very important. Everything else is just Cosmetic.

...til it falls apart/flakes away/rusts away in 3 years because you cheaped out and you're back at square one...
If you ever have plans of keeping a car for any amount of time, get body work done properly and don't half ass it. Maaco has it's reputation for a reason...
It will also look a hell of a lot better and be a much better selling point when you go to resell. I steer clear of repaints or any car with bodywork once they're older because of the fact that most people cheap out on a paint job or bodywork. I can typically spot a repainted SVX from a mile away because the quality is almost never up to par.

/sorry for the thread hijack here...

That is a good point. That's why I was using the $4K estimate I got when I tried to estimate the total cost. One reason I was surprised at the total is that this was from a small local body shop that, while it has a good reputation, is usually a little below the bigger fancy body shops.

Did you see my post on the other forum about swinging by your place to pick up a visor?

Any interest at 2k? I'd have to take time off, get out there from WA, and drive it back. Still, I miss my pearl, so if we can make it work. Let me know.
