Unhappy Is it war yet?

Well, the surrealism of this day has finally hit me. After plane number two plowed into tower number two on that day, I phoned my daughter, living in Florida at the time, & vaguely remember saying something like, "Your life has changed today in more ways than it had changed in your previous 28 years on this planet". It did.

Now, it's as if we're counting down to inserting a disc into a big Playstation, & watching mayhem that will once again alter our lives in ways we can't imagine. In only 20 hours or less from now, the latest videogame from hell will commence, yet tonight Leno prattles on...."Reality" TV thrives....basketball rules! Wow - and you thought you seen March Madness! We will.

May someone's God please turn off the lights. I'm not sure if it's safe to wake up tomorrow.

Sorry... I'm having trouble hitting the sack tonight.

Ron.

Ron,

I know how you feel. Personally, I am against the war we are about to start. But as soon as it starts, I will support all our kids on the front lines & in the rear echelon, because it's the right thing to do and that's the way I was raised. I will pray for our troops and the poor bastards that have been conscripted into the Iraqi armed forces because we are about to unlease something worse than hell on them. This time around they have been told they will be shot if they try to surrender. Their only hope is to kill the Republican Guard officers assigned to their unit and then surrender.

Also, I was very much angered by MS-NBC on TV. They have a 'Deadline Clock' counting down the 48 hrs. I think this is in very poor taste. War is not a game and the a**hole that came up with the clock idea ought to be assigned as a pool reporter with our front line units. Maybe he will learn decorum after he is under fire.

The above are just my opinions.

That deadline clock is in really poor taste.

The thing that really leaves a smoking gun bad taste in my mouth is that last night I heard Iraq has threatened to use chemical and biological weapons on incoming troops. Oddly enough, the weapons they threaten to use are the same ones that the UN ordered them to destroy, the same ones they denied having, and the same ones that the inspectors couldn't find.

I guess they found some extra weapons they didn't know they had...

Sixty five years ago there were no policemen, to our detriment. All we on the outside can do is hope and trust that the policemen are honest. On the basis of past performance I have every confidence.

Larry,
You took the words out of my mouth. Very well said.

I hope so. But there are other motives involved this time aside from the police action. There are benefits that can be had so honesty can be questioned.

Like I've said or rather agreed that US/UK can go in and beat the living crap out of Iraq... what happens after that counts. US in the past had tendency to keep ends untied which hunts them later. I hope they keep everything tied up this time.

Lwin

PS. What's the situation with N. Korea? We have been focusing on Iraq for a while. What happened to the nuclear weapons from North Korea? We all know they are still making them right?

Lwin, I mean no offense, but do you not consider yourself American? You refer to the United Stated as 'they' and 'them.'

Not that I don't agree that sometimes we leave things unfinished. I think that this current conflict with Iraq will be precedent-setting, and hopefully we're aware of how important our follow-up is. It will by no means be easy. Even if we're building schools and hospitals and roads, those things will be built under military supervision and there will be resentment against such occupation.

As for North Korea, our government's official stance right now is that they're a regional problem. They present an immediate threat to China, Japan and South Korea especially, so we seem to be hoping that they'll deal with North Korea. There was a fantastic article in The Onion a couple weeks ago titled 'North Korea Wonders What It Has to Do to Get US Military's Attention.' The 'DPRK's' (snicker) plan was apparently to start a conflict and using it to negotiate for more aid. A government clearly out of control.

They are such hypocrites. Last year the French invaded the Ivory Coast, killing soldiers and civilians alike, to preserve their financial interests in the region.

Its amazing how easy it is to be a "peaceful" people when you have the luxury of having the US protecting your ass for the last 50 years. How quickly they forget the blood of US soldiers that was shed to give them their "peaceful" country.

Oh, by the way, the French also voluntarily waged war on England to support a group of rebels trying to rid themselves of England's rule. I think it was called something like the American Revolution.

Doug,

I heard on the radio this morn., that if Iraq uses chemical weapons on troops, France will send soldiers to fight beside us.
Trying to understand the French is like trying to understand women. I'll never be able to understand either.
