I was thinking the same thing, just didn't have time to do it last night. Here's the new improved version...

Well, they SHOULD have! I agree 110%. Since Alfa has decided NOT to build the Brera.....Subaru should just buy the design. I know Larry disagrees, but personally I think the Brera is one of the most beautiful designs to come down the pike in a long time.

That car is really beautiful. Had not seen the side profile. The metallic red is eye-catching and vibrant. Devil brew.

Lay a little wager it would not work with the SVX driveline. The bonnet[hood] is too low.

Check out the profile see-through pictures of our SVX. The tranny and engine rises past the cabin in order to be high ehough for the front differential to be in line with the front wheel centres. That is why there is so much nose on our car, to accommodate the gubbins which the flat six displaces from the usual places.

This Brera is designed with the engine low and back behind the front axle line. I did not see the article say so, but I am guessing that the transaxle is located at the back axle for weight reasons, and power is carried to it using a torque tube. This is the same configuration used by the Ferrari 456 and the Alfa Romeo SZ.

Bottom line, this is a front engine rear drive design. It would not suit AWD.

Pity

Joe

Don,

I don't disagree. The Brera is a beautiful design. It flows. I just think that the rear roof line should be softened a bit.
The B11S is a bad copy of Alfaesque features in the front and other peoples in other parts of the car. Then they put them all together and nothing flows into one another. It's a hodge podge of individual pieces.

Let me give you an example. Remmember how the upper bridge of my nose flow into my forehed and my forehead flows seamlessly into the top of my head. That's what I mean by integrated design.

May be the odd man out here but jeez that is ugly!!

Too much of every other breed all mixed together...and I HATE the ALfa front.

I went outside to look at my SVX and pondered it for a while.

The new SVX also needs flared flanks but blended like ours, not grafted....a feeling of wider at the back to impart a 'crouched' view assisted by a slope prominent from rear to front, emphasised by a long low bonnet with large overhangs with a tuck back in to form a nose rather than a wedge....and keep the windows.

I have the image in my head but no way to put it on paper

And it needs narrow, wide lights....to me the SVX, especially in dark colours, has a sinister aggressive tone about it....you want to feel like you are in something 'different' and slightly demonic almost....the SVX coming around a corner just has this sensation of length, imposing mass and brutish intent.

To be honest, it would be interesting if they tried it again but cleaned up the 'waterfall' between the front lights, remodelled the rear lights (Giuigaro, the lazy bugger, pulled the same effort on the Alfa 164), larger rims and of course, manual transmission, twin turbo powerplant, real wood and maybe make the centre dash less '80's square edged' but more in theme with the outside...rigid form but with a sensation of flowing lines.

Oh..and a glass sunroof option with retractable sunshade!!

No way James,

It's not ugly. It is low, powerful, hulking, purposeful and the overall shape, which accommodates 4 adults, is coherent and fluid. However, while I love the general shape of the front end, the spoilerless bumper and the lights, the Jimmy Durante nose job has got to go!

I also think it is a touch disingenuous to be saying it has VW doors, Pontiac tail, Audi side view and so on.

There are no unique car designs any more.

Current fashion trends, some dictated by motorsport, others purely by fashion or function, mean that all new cars will carry design features that mimic other successful manufacturers models. They are not going to want to make another quirky SVX that does not sell, so the car must be attractive and acceptable to a large and diverse body of potential buyers.

This is a "grow on you" design. Look at different profiles, imagine it in other colours, imagine it without the stupid front orifice. And remember it is designed for the speed of a 400hp car. In England you would be talking about Aston Martin , In Italy Ferrari or Maserati. These are big and brutal, they don't do a "petite" 400 hp car.

I like it so much, I can't wait for the launch. I am sending my details to Subaru so they can use me as a pre-release test pilot.

Joe

You're absolutely right James. The "new SVX" needs more of the SVX in it's design. But being based on the Impreza, it's not long enough to have a sleek beautiful shape and accomodate four large adults.

Phil.

Joe,
couldn't have said any better!

I guess some of you guys just can't get out of the head the SVX. This isn't an SVX, it's an autobahn sprinter.

The king is dead, long live the king.

Cheers, RSK

Ok here's my 2 cents. You want a nice looking 400 HP car. Make it look like a Lamborghini Miura, not the Diablo or the new "Key-Largo."

Now I remember! I knew you looked familiar the first day we met you! Jean and I first saw you in Florence, Italy back in '75....

....but I would have SWORN your name was "David".

Thumbs up Lambo II - revenge of the bull

<Make it look like a Lamborghini Miura>

Except for the fact you drive a Miura lying on your back. I was almost run over by one in Monaco at a crosswalk....the thing was so darn low I didn't see it until it almost took me off at the knees!
Don

Beautiful car though....
