Hi

Im a new member here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Andrew, and I am a regular at the Anti-rice.com forums. I don't own a SVX, but am looking into buying one in the future. A friend of mine has an uncle that owns a black SVX and may be selling it soon. Since that one has transmission problems (as most do) and I would rather have a stick shift, I would like to know how difficult and how expensive is it to do a 5 speed conversion?

Also, where can I find lots of SVX pictures and videos besides SubaruSVX.com (I have already seen all the pictures there)?

Thanks,
Andrew.

Hey Newbey!!! Good to have ya with us... If you are trying to get an SVX you could look in ebay.com but I'm abit weary about what I buy on there.... There's always Autotrader.com That's where I got found mine at..... What year are you looking for, I could help ya out if ya want.... We do that here in this network, Look out for eachother... And if you want Pics, Video's and other SVX things, just look in the Personal Lockers of the members... I don't have any of me SVX yet But I have some really good ones of my Jeep going muddn' !!!! They're cool!!! Check them out and stay active on the network!!!! Let us hear from ya...

I can't give ya an offical welcome, The President should to that later today though

Welcome to the network! This is the best place on the web about the SVX or anything else for that matter! If you stick around here long enough you will find that it goes way beyond the car itself, it really becomes like a family.

Of course if you are just interested in the facts, you will find all of that too. Like greenmarine said, we all look out for each other and offer help freely.

Welcome to the network! Like GreenMarine said, you can check out our lockers for pictures. I've got a few in mine. Just click on the littke "Locker" button down at the bottom of my post. Also, check out www.subarusvx.org there is lots of info there.

Welcome Andrew

Always good to have new blood.

You will see lots of posts on 5 speeds. Wawazat can help with the requirements for that. It is not a simple bolt-in solution. You need bellhousing and clutch, and chances are [95%] you need to put in a lower rear differential internals to match.

That said I have never seen any dissatisfied comments from people who made the change, more than can be said for people who have had to repeat fix the auto tranny.

I'm an auto and stock man myself, but there is room here, and tolerance [these days] for all shades of opinion.

Get to learn the search function. You can find info on practically anything.

Joe

Thanks guys. I always check ebay and autotrader.com, and not just for SVXs. I currently own an Infiniti G20 (manual) that I found on autotrader.com. I also am a bit iffy when it comes to ebay, but I have trouble finding an SVX on autotrader. I also look in the autotrader mags to check every now and then, but it wont be any time real soon that I buy one, I have to pay for school. I want to learn as much about the car as I can before I choose to get one so that I know how to hanlde any problems that may arise.

I have not yet decided wither I want to save my money for a SVX, or put about 6 grand in my car: sr20deT engine, turbo accessories, new tires, new clutch, new tranny with LSD, shocks, and minor body repair. It would be worth it for a 12 second G20, but the SVX is just so awesome! I could use that same amount and get a SVX after selling my G20, but that all depends on which job I switch to.

Welcome to the club, Andrew! You'll find lots of good advice here as well as good company. If you can get a good enough deal on an SVX that you know the tranny is bad on, then you can allow for the replacement on it too. If everything else in good shape (I've heard of some trannies going bad before 50K are on the car) then it might be worth the investment. Mine had 71K on it when I bought it and I just replaced the tranny at 72K. The car is worth it though and I can't imagine life without it

Come on, Nick..."most" only means 50.01% and I think I would agree with that generalization (having replaced a tranny myself). After reading the posts on this board it's only fair to assume that the tranny is almost guaranteed to fail before most any other part. To quote your very own sig...

"Wishing doesn't make it so."
