Climate Control By-Level
Where is that by-level control switch for the SVX heater?
My feet are getting cold when I have to run the defroster. |

My suggestions John
1) Use a scraper
2) Wear thicker socks 3) Stop breathing....wait, that sounds bad Todd

I was thinking about duct tapeing a 4" dryer hose bewteen the windshield vents and the floor.
Do you think a white hose would look okay with the gray / black interior? I could spray paint it gray? |

Get some dryer hose with the aluminum foil coating (the "simulated chrome" look). I think someone's got the climate control troubleshooting pages in his locker - search for that and you might be able to diagnose the cause. Someone said they just lubed the door hinges and that cured the problem.

That would be good to know.
My car blows on the winshield only when it's defrosting. Do you mean that isn't normal? |

To my understanding:
In defrost mode, it will only blow out on the windshield, and side windows. In Auto mode, it will only blow out on your feet.

as far as I know, Auto mode is SUPPOSED to blow on your face, but quite often, the arm responsible for directing the air gets stuck and auto winds up blowing on your feet..

It's normal for the air to blow on the windshield only, when in defrost mode. In auto mode, the air will be directed according to the temp. If the auto climate control is cooling the car, it will direct the air through the "face" vents. The moment it goes into "heat" mode, it will direct the air to the floor. The SVX climate control was designed this way. The engineers found that heat, blowing in the faces of drivers, would dry out their eyes, so, they opted NOT to allow the dry, heated air to come out the dash vents. Heat, to a smaller degree is also directed to the windshield and the side vents, when in heat mode. If, the temp gets to the point where it is between air, and heat, the dash vents will blow fresh air through the dash vents, until such time as it returns to aircon (cool air) or heat (hot air to floor) mode.

So there is no way to keep my feet warm when it's 8 F outside and the defroster is on?

I go out a few minutes before I have to leave, start the car, and turn on the front and rear defog. By the time I've said goodbye to the wife, dogs, cats, and guests, it's warm enough to prevent frostbite and I can put it on auto. Hey, if you want logic in your car design, buy a German car.

John, I believe that if you leave it on AUTO, it will both defrost the windows and heat your feet if heat is required. By setting it on DEFROST, you are forcing the system to direct all the air to the windshield. I just leave it on AUTO and have no problems. Except of course when my wife gets her hands on the SVX and then all bets are off. The ventilation and alarm settings are mysteriously changed. She also thinks that by setting the temperature at 85 it will warm up faster. As Ron Popile keeps saying, "just set it, and forget it". Matt

Way to go Randy
Randy,
You said it all!! Perfect review of this system: I was wondering why I couldn't get any heat out of the face vents on auto but did get a light side window defrost!! Thanks!!!!!! Hotshoe |
