25th Anniversary silver edition?
A guy near me is selling a '92 SVX and it is a two tone car, silver with black on top. Its got full leather, sunroof, cd player, and the spoiler. It has stickers on the window that say '25th anniversary silver edition' but so far I haven't found any information on an anniversary edition other than the '93 barcelona red with beige interior. I have heard that the '92 cars got re-sold as '93's... so maybe the subaru dealers just threw on "silver anniversary edition' stickers onto the '92 with the touring package. Someone help clear this up for me, thanks.

I think they're making that up. But if the car is mechanically sound it might still be worth the purchase (depending on price) What kind of mileage and such does it have, and what are they asking for it?

The milage is high, 170,000. The car is in good shape, the wheel bearings need replaced, but thats no big deal. The engine runs strong, I know the guy personally so I trust him on things, he says its all highway miles. He's asking $4200 but I can probably get him down to $3500 or so. Theres no rust and the leather isn't worn. The stickers look like they were made by subaru, it is probably some gimmic the dealer used.

You should be able to get the 92 for lower than 3500. I got my 94 with 160k for 2800 with a reuilt tranny (under warranty) in NY so, ask for a lower price tag on it.
As for 25th. anni. edition, it's a BS sticker. They are only produced as 93s and unless they are repaints, they are all Barcelona reds. But I'll still pay 3500 for a running silver SVX in good condition Lwin

I saw that ad in the Erie Times last week. I couldn't figure why it had a New York number listed. If you are dead set on the car, take it over to New Motors and have them do a full check on the car. My friend works there (drives a '92 LSL also) and when I told him about this car for sale in the paper he was sure it has come in before. I would definitely try to get it cheaper, $4200 for any car with 170K is just assinine. I wouldn't pay more than $2K considering right off the bat it will cost you $250+ to fix the wheel bearing. There is a nice black '92 LSL down the street from me. It has 75K and has been parked for about 4 years. I talked with the owners and I'm sure the tranny **** itself. The guy who owns it starts it every few weeks and moves it up and down the driveway. They want $2500 for it. I started it and moved it around there driveway a few weeks ago. I don't understand why the transmission acts the way it does:
To get it into to go in gear (whether it be forward or reverse) you have to rev it. It doesn't slam when it engages as if it is slipping but rather really slow to engage. The reason I do not understand this is because I was told 1st and reverse are also full line pressure. The guy swears it is some pump but he says when he gets around to it he is replacing the entire transmission with a rebuilt unit. He also stated when it first exhibiting symptoms he would be going down the road at say 65mph, let off the gas and the car would drop back to idle speed. Good luck with the decision. P.S. I just re-read your message. If it needs both wheel bearings...look at around double what I said before. So, ~$500 for both. Last edited by IwantaSVX; 10-05-2002 at 03:37 PM. |

Thanks for the advice, how much would a rebuilt transmission cost (just out of general curiosity)?

I've already had him do some checking for me at News. His cost for a rebuilt transmission is $2200. I think labor would be around $500 and I would probably check the condition of the halfshafts ($300/each). Take into account these prices are 10% over the dealership's cost. If I went in and asked about a transmission I'm sure it would be at least $3K maybe more.
Take this silver '92 for a ride. Check for any lag and/or flare in the 2-3 and 3-4. My friend got his '92 with 80K on it back in March. It now has 99K. For the last few thousand it has had a 2-3 flare and its about ready to give up the ghost. Now, the 1st 2-3 shift after it has sat over night the transmission just revs and when you let off the gas it slams in gear. When they go, they go fairly quick. Also, take it real slow and make sure the 2-3 doesn't slam when you are barely giving it any gas. If the transmission is original with 170K stay away. I would guess you are lucky if an SVX tranny last 100K. So, even if the transmission has been done once at say 100K you might need to be replacing it again soon. |

my SVX has 171k on it , first tranny and it is just now and it is just starting to flare 2-3. goes into all gears fine. I think my SVX was shipped to the general public instead of a subaru emplyee! jk
