Impact gun on rear diff plug?
Hi all,
I went to change the rear differential fluid in the ebony 92 last night. Even with the 24" breaker bar, could not get filler plug out. Do I dare try an impact gun on this?

Re: Impact gun on rear diff plug?
Wow, that's harsh. Can you get the top plug? With enough time you could suck the fluid out the top one and then refill there.

Re: Impact gun on rear diff plug?
You can undo it with an impact gun, but don't use one to put it back in. I had a hell of a time getting the drain plug out of my SVX and ended up using air tools to remove it. If your gun is capable of silly torque, turn it down a bit so you don't damage the plug.

Re: Impact gun on rear diff plug?
when you take it out make sure you are prepared to deal with stripped or damaged threads in case the last person threaded it wrong. sometimes a few direct blows with a big hammer will break some of the rust loose so you can take it out.

I just hope you tried the filler plug first!

TEEHEEHEEHEEHEE, Snort! Since the plus is made out of soft material I would never use an air gun. A "cheater" bar is a much better choice!
