Exclamation Need help with engine misfire

i recently started having misfiring issues with my 94 svx. i drove to work on all cylinders and when i went to leave one of them cut out. i left it running for a minute then it sounded like another cut out. after pulling off injector connectors found that 3 and 5 are not firing. i limped home and saw smoke coming from the right exhaust pipe only so im guessing the injectors are still firing. any suggestions?

Re: Need help with engine misfire

better check to see if number 1 is misfiring so you can rule in/out the timing belt as an issue. unless you have modified your exhaust they share one pipe in the middle from the cat to the muffler so smoke coming out of only oen side doesn't really matter. does it get better or worse at higher rpm?

Re: Need help with engine misfire

cylinder 1 is firing still. it stays the same at any rpm range. i pulled the coils and tested them with a test plug and found that they are not firing. any ideas on what could be causing this?

Re: Need help with engine misfire

You checked the good coils right? Good ones do fire, the ones on the misfiring cylinders don't?

Could be the coils themselves, the igniter module, or a wiring issue. I'd first try swapping the suspect coils to the other side of the motor (they are interchangeable side-to side). If the problem follows the coils replace the coils.
