Alternative option to replace PCV
The method using the 19mm crow's foot was a bear of a task tonight. I got the pcv valve off but I found a better way to put the new one back on.
Considering I'm replacing the air idle control valve anyways, I removed the throttle body from the intake manifold. This gave me room to use a 19mm deep 6pt. socket by reaching my hand through the back under the intake manifold where the TB is mounted and easily placing the socket on the valve. The wire harness makes it a bit tight but it can move slightly and the hose that connects to the valve can be moved out of the way. I'm not sure if anyone does it a better way without removing the intake manifold, but this was just my experience. |

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
That is actually an excellent idea. I think most people are afraid of having to remove and put back the lines going to the intake and throttle body, but once you've done it a couple times, it's easy.

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
No I should have, but actually I can take some pictures tomorrow before I put the throttle body back together. I did place the hose back on the PCV valve but I can position where the socket would be when attempting this.

I looked to see where the hose routes and I cannot see how to replace this hose because I'm unsure where it connects under the right side of the intake manifold. Has anyone replaced this hose without removing manifold? |

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
I managed to change the PCV with just a standard open ended 19mm wrench. *shrug*

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
From above or below?
Mine probably was never changed..I ran out of geometry options when trying from above...also I kept dropping the new valve when trying to start the threads...then I figured up from the bottom is the most sensible way |

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
Or... Just pull the manifold with the fuel stacks attached and replace all those cracking vacuum hoses and aging gaskets.

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
I took a few pics today. With the throttle body removed I have a 19mm socket pictured near the valve. My arm reaches in from behind where the IACV would be. I hope this is clear for those interested.

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
So I did manage to split the end of this hose.....luckily for now electrical tape is holding.
What is the size of hose I need to purchase? I will probably cut this one and use a small hose fitting to join two pieces together. |

Re: Alternative option to replace PCV
Crazy thought. Is there a device one could screw in place of the PCV which would allow a hose to come out to a much more accessible location so that one could place a PCV valve in this hose and replace it easily should it be required again some day?
