Well, there it is - How to Change the PVC Valve.

Just because your Dipstick was out, doesn't mean that you need to change the PVC Valve. It could be as simple as changing the O-Ring on the dipstick. If it pops out after changing the O-Ring, then you can change the PVC valve.

Your first choice for finding how to do things on your SVX should be the How-To Documents! Good Luck.

Yes I've read it and I have it printed out, plus have done multiple thread searches. I am mostly trying to psych myself up for something I am very reluctant to try.

It is seriously a lot easier than you think. It's only tedious. I even did it with a regular non-angular wrench because I couldn't find my crow attachment.

I don't believe there is any significant difference between either. It's only a weighted relief valve.

Ok i have read thru this and I'm like I have that problem lol but I have also noticed that the valve cover gaskets are leaking oil so would it be a good thought to do the pcv thing and new o ring while replacing the gaskets?
Did the pcv ;make the gaskets leak?

Replacing my PCV and it's associated hoses has not prevented my valve covers from leaking or my dipstick from popping up, so no promises there.

Did the pcv ;make the gaskets leak?
I had the mechanic check for a clogged PCV and, sure enough, he found it was so that is exactly what I did. I had him do the PCV when he did the valve cover gaskets. Make sure every single gasket is ordered. There are, I believe, three on each side as well as the grommets for the bolts. I didn't immediately change the o-ring but, over time, it will still pop out due to vibrations. I changed it to a new HBNR o-ring and now all is good.

However, although my vacuum lines are relatively pliable, I think I will/should need to replace those soon too.

I just purchased a box of o-rings and a new pcv valve. I went to 3 stores to find a crows foot but no luck. I guess i need to hit Harbor Freight or order one on the net. Or maybe just bend up a wrench like in that pic. In the mean time maybe the o-ring will prove to be all it needed.
Also, I just pulled out my spare intake and see that it still has a pcv valve, this should give me a chance to practice removal and installation before actually trying it on my SVX.

Remember that the PCV valve is inserted on the underside of the manifold. Acting as if you're "tightening" from the top will actually loosen the valve


In this case its "righty-loosey, lefty-tighty"


I always wondered why someone never threaded a nipple into the PCV valve hole in the manifold and ran some tubing to a generic PCV valve, tucking it out of the way under the manifold

Whenever it comes time to do the PCV on mine, I plan on either doing something like that, or plugging the hole in the manifold and doing a crankcase breather instead.

I wondered the same thing. Does anyone know the thread information for the PCV and the hose ID? I can look up what parts might be available to do this. It would be nice to easily check the valve at every oil change.
