Another is it possible thread...
I know, anything is possible with enough money, but I hope I'm at least somewhat grounded in reality.
I saw a totaled 2008 Tribeca for sale the other day for $13k (unfortunately on the other side of the country from me). It had just over 10k miles on it. It looked rear ended so the drivetrain, motor and rear brakes looked fine. Could you swap the motor, transmission, intake, exhaust, ecu, and tcu over to the SVX and have it work? This way you would have all of the correct sensor inputs to the ECU and TCU. You would get a EZ36 and 5EAT in exchange for all of the work. You would still be smog tested as an OBDI car (sniffer only) and get more HP, more torque, and use regular gas. Anything I'm missing? Any sensor inputs that you wouldn't get swapping the intake and exhaust? As a side note, I've also read that the Tribeca rear brakes should be a direct replacement and upgrade for ours. $13k sounds like a lot of money at first, but considering the amount that it cost to properly build the EG33 and acquire a 6 speed, it might be worth it.

Sure, gonna take a lot of work with wiring and will need a custom exhaust made. I don't see why it would be difficult at all though

Well if he swaps the complete harness, most sensors, ecu, and dash over, wouldnt that eliminate a lot of wiring headaches? I know it won't be super simple of a swap but maybe doing those things could lessen the pains.

Better and easier then cutting and splicing two harnesses together I'd say lol. May be a pain to do the new mounts and maybe crossmember. Taylor, if you got the time and money to do it, then go for it.

If they are anything like Legacy, they do use the RFID keys. I am pretty well certain they do.
I wonder if it would be easier to cut down the body, and put an SVX body on the Tribeca's chassis. I thought the original schnozz Tribeca was ugly on the front, but the headlights were at least interesting... The newer Tribeca lost the interesting headlights for more normal styling that works better, overall. I always wondered what a wide body GT coupe would look like, based a mix between 2009 Legacy, and 2009 Tribeca, with SVX's flush glass roof treatment. 3.6R engine tuned to it's naturally aspirated potential (not handicapped for the 5EAT gearbox...) and backed by Legacy Spec B's 6MT VTD gearbox... with Tribeca's wide track, 5-link rear suspension, and 5x114 hubs with generously sized brakes. A bit of Legacy's sporty Grand Touring Interior, with a bit of Tribeca's wrap-around dash added in like SVX's wrapped dash treatment. Subaru has the equipment in it's catalog to build a fantastic new SVX... if they would just do it... It would probably be easier for them to design and implement on a corporate level, than for a shadetree DIY Tribeca drivetrain transplant into an SVX that is more than ten years older... If it were any other brand, the answer would likely be no way in hell... But Subarus being built like legos, it might actually fit. Getting it to run and work might be an interesting challenge...

I don't think this would be hard at all, really. If you can fabricate stuff yourself and you have alot of time I think you could make this happen with relative ease. At least, the engine and the transmission part. A few one off custom pieces would have to be made, though.
EDIT: I forgot the new transmissions use wheel speed sensors for transfer clutch duty calculation. That would be a trip to get to work properly. The TCU wouldn't see the ABS control signal it wants and would likely be nasty about it. EDIT #2 Okay, the tribeca is gonna use a key off LEV-II evap system. That would be horrible to try and make work. You would have to run lines, mount the charcoal canister, and do some serious work to the fuel tank/filler neck to get it to work In fact, It would be easiest to find a way to take the tank from the tribeca and make it fit in the SVX. this would be a nightmare. There are bound to be many more of these kind of issues. But it could be done

I would rather go with 6spd and fit the EZ36 to that.
Would need after market ecu to run it.

Gruppe S is one place that at least WAS importing JDM EZ36 engines for 1999 bucks as of 2008... I'd fine something like that, buy the harness and whatever else separate if it doesn't come with it, and save myself 5 grand.

I wish Subaru of America would release a production car with that. I have a feeling that the EZ36 is well under-tuned, to not cause warranty problems with the 5EAT gearbox... no engine puts more than about ~260 lb.ft. of torque through that gearbox...
An un-corked EZ36 (300-320hp? maybe more? DFI?), with 2009 Spec B's VTD 6-speed (the robust one, not the newly hacked-in 6-speed cable shifted gearbox in the '10 Legacy GT) If that were offered in a car like the 2009 Legacy, or a new SVX resurrection, that would be VERY cool, and very tempting. If my Legacy were to somehow blow up it's engine... which I REALLY hope doesn't happen... I would be somewhat tempted to put an EZ30R, or EZ36, and a Tribeca or Outback ECU in it, and either put a solid H6 hood on the car, or convert the hood scoop to air induction.
