New Paint & Black Chrome '97 Opinions?

Well, finally getting around to posting up after having hood/roof/trunklid/wing/drivers door/LR Qtr (refinished shoddy previous repair), and rear bumper skin repainted factory Ebony Mica. The shop buffed up the rest of the panels and here are the first pics. In the meantime I had my factory rims refinished in Black Chrome added to the effect. Enjoy!

Glenn

Looking good Glenn, congrats!

Two concerns though:
- Centre caps: would have looked better in either chrome or black.
- FRONT CENTRE GRILLE: Is that custom?

Ditto on the front grille

How much did refinishing the rims run?

Thanks Danny! I love the new paint! They did an excellent job on it!!

The center caps were a concern, with the plater offering me custom caps, also chromed, for $75 apiece. This was on the heels of $75 per wheel to have 2 of the 4 used wheels I picked up from a member straightened prior to plating. I passed on the added expense. I do have a spare set of center caps and I'll be spraying them Ebony Mica custom mixed in a spray-can, and see if that finishes it more satisfactorily. I myself kind of like the silver caps, breaking up the black theme in a small way, but minor expense might yield better results, so I'll be giving it a go.

Front grill is stock '97.

Bill, Costs were $155 per wheel, plus $75 per to repair/straighten 2 and $95 shipping SoCal to NorCal.

Glenn,
Thanks for the response! The car does look great! I thought maybe you had the stock grill, the perspective in the one pic made it appear to be "flatter" than stock.

Looks fantastic. I wish mine looked anywhere near that good...

For the center caps... maybe try something by a company called Alsa Corporation.

http://www.alsacorp.com/killercans.htm

They have paint materials that approximate chrome and tinted chrome, even in spray cans. They have LOTS of fun stuff.

I've not yet had an occaision to use their stuff, but it looks cool on their website... Just something I came across a while back...

The paint looks fantastic on the car, as well.

Sweet !

Yea I seen somebody use the alsa black chrome on the svx wheels, dont look nearly as good as rojo's though. But for 2 cans killerchrome@ $100 it might be worth a spin. They got some really cool paint there at alsa!

Gorgeous! Those rims are outstanding, too (I always liked the style of the factory rims over most aftermarkets).

I'll echo the center cap sentiments: either chrome to match the rims, or black to match the car. They detract from the overall shiny-spiffiness as they are now.

Re: New Paint & Black Chrome '97 Opinions?

Mike, Thanks! I value your opinion.

Bill, You're welcome!

Boxer, Thanks for the link to Alsa Corp! I'm looking over their videos now. May just be worth a try. Maybe some Ghost Chrome over Ebony Mica basecoat?

radad, Thanks for checking in. I hoped people wouldn't think it was over the top.

Zandar, I agree about the styling match of the oem wheel to the SVX. Plater referred to them as "swept spoke". I liked that. Point taken about detracting from the "bling".

I'm really looking forward to doing a little traveling soon, including a trip up Portland way to see my Sis in Tigard. I hope to be taking the scenic route as much as possible, getting some nice HiRes "Beautyshots" to post up. I LIKE IT!!!

I see why you and Bill think the grill is different than the '97. The light is hitting the bottom part of it to make it look as though the "mesh" part is sticking out further. It really is just a '97 grill. It took me a few looks to fully realize it

Re: New Paint & Black Chrome '97 Opinions?

ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh yea, I see that now. TRICKY!

On the side note, I am not a fan of the all black bullet look on most cars... looks good here. Great job. I think the black "CHROME" makes it work.

I wonder... could you have sent out your exhaust tips too? mmmmmmm

I really hadn't seen that!!!

No, alas, the plater doesn't do the Black Chrome process for parts. But that does plant the thought, and we'll see how things work out with the caps. Might just be able to do 'em using the Ghost Chrome process from Alba.

Great Idea!! Thanks!!
