Re: binding

I wonder what it broke inside it. It sounds pretty bad. Keep us informed.

As it is binding when traveling straight up the road, it would have to be a diff ratio mismatch? Probably broke the clutch drum off the transfer gear.

Harvey.

That's where my money's at. I figured this was the problem way back in the beginning. I've never seen one actually get driven more than a few hundred feet mismatched.

Re: binding

OK here is where we are with the car. I left it there on tuesday and the insurance company called me today and told me to take the car to the dealer for then to finish the car. The guy actually told them that he had no idea what to and how to fix the car and he will no longer take subarus at his shop as they are beyond his experteas and has no idea how to work on them. DUHHHHH. The sound that I heard was a loose shield on the car that was banging on the bottom of the car. So atleast he fixed that. So I will be taking the car to a dealer and dropping it of on tuesday I think to get fixed and they will pay the bill.

Re: binding

WOW. It's not that hard... anyway, I bet the dealership will put a reman trans in it. That's what I would do, especially since there is no telling what the guy butchered inside that transmission, and no telling what ratio that front diff is.

Re: binding

Well what happened is that the trans that he put in was bad. as there are two teflon plugs that are in the trans and they were not there so it was like having an open case. this let stuff get into the trans and burn the clutches up for the rear wheels. Now we have to wait for the insurance co to get out there tomorrow and produce and est for the car. They need to put a NEW trans in the car they said and they wont mess around with this one as it is trashed.

Re: binding

Yep haha told ya. They can get a reman, or a brand new unit. I think the new one is close to $4500 though.

I don't know what plugs there are.. were they talking about the teflon sealing rings?

Re: binding

Here is the end result for this issue. I took the car to the dealer and they did there estamit and totaled the car. I get to keep it and they are paying for another car. I will still get to keep the car and I will drive it till it pops then its part out city I think.

Re: binding

Dont get me wrong I love the car and parting it out is the last thing that I want to do. I am so in the red on it already it is just not practical to keep tossing money into it for the same thing. I just picked up a supercharged GTP and they look good next to eachother in the driveway.
