And I just stopped at my local NAPA store, to find Lubeguard Red on sale for $8 instead of the usual $13. Picked up a bottle for all of my 3 vehicles, and one for the power steering system. Being a national chain, I imagine the price is possibly nationwide. Perhaps this is an opportune time to give this Holy Grail a try.

Come to think of it, "The Holy Grail" is one of my favorite movies.

Bev, thanks for the education and tip.

Cool

Beav, I posted about Lubegard here, (or was it Yahoo?) a long time ago, since my jack-of-all-trades/makes next door mechanic sells it. I read the brochure, & asked the members their opinions. Most just poo-pooed the stuff as snake oil & Motor Honey mixed. Now, your pristine credibility has my interest piqued. The main claim by this product is a reduction in heat. Has anyone here with a tranny temp gauge tried a before/after test?

Awaiting PROOF! Ron.

Not yet, but I think my tranny is so close to death that I'm willing to try anything for $8 as long as it isn't full of sand and acid.

Significant Technical Input
I can't speak up for the heat claim, as I haven't had the opportunity to check it with a thermometer. However if it eliminates chattering and shuddering I would suspect it does, at least in some cases.

fyi the tranny drain plug and engine oil drain plug are the same size, so I put a fumoto valve on both.

I drain the tranny every couple of engine oil changes. Get about 4 qts out ofthe trans this way. Use Mobil 1. Yes I know I'm leaving a lot of dirty fluid in the trans but it makes me feel better and luck for me the expense is not a big deal. Annually (25-30K) i have the pan dropped, install new filter and gasket. My mechanixc gets out more than 4 qts. by loosening some pipe inside the tranny.

Trans has 144K on it now and it works quite well but isn't quite as smooth as in the first 90K or so miles. Someday I'll get around to the ext. filter and bigger cooler.
