header bolts snapped, tourque converter bolts!!!urgg

ok so as alot of you know i am STILL in the mits of changing my front differential, now i took the exhaust down and the header bolts snapped off.. would the easiest way be to drill them out and put bolts and nuts on them? i was looking and it looks like that will work out ok? and is there a special way to get the torque converter bolts back in....man o man are they a pain.. and are they all different sizes?

thanks, bobby

your header bolt broke off in the head? if so, you can drill it out carefully then get a new stud. as for the torque coverter bolts, there should be 4 all the same size. just use a 1/4 socket to get them started the switch to a 3/8 drive to tighten them.

If I recall, the torque converter bolts should all be 12mm. The best way to remove/install them, is to remove the alternator, and use a long extension back under the intake manifold to the head of the bolt.

the 12mm bolts should all be the same length. there not long at all, about an inch and a half at most. do you mean the exhaust bolts that go into the head or the ones that connect the different sectons of exhaust?

You likely mean the header studs that hold together the head pipes and the exhaust manifolds. They are VERY hard to drill out but this might be your best bet unless you have been extracting broken studs in your free time for the past 10 years and are handy with a heat wrench.

The t/c bolts are all 8x1.25 bolts that are equal length. They also have uniqe heads that are shorter than most for clearance reasons. Get the right bolts.

Tom

I had to drill mine too. It was a major PITA, but I really didn't see any alternatives. Took me a couple of hours to do it, cause the studs are really really hard.

I agree with Tom for the TC bolts. Get the right ones.

The one on the right is the correct bolt.
